Also. embracing for the time machine jokes, I still think 16e 128gb at $299 for the phone, was a better deal and might come back - far superior processor, 8gb ram, Apple AI support, longer os update support, convenient usb-c port instead of lightning etc. These far outweigh the potential advantages from 14 plus - 256gb, dual camera, magsafe, larger screen size etc for me.
Not true for everyone/every use case, agreed. YMMV

Verizon Postpaid: Per Verizon's official policy, handsets sold on postpaid plans remain locked for 60 days after purchase/activation, then auto‑unlock. "Devices that you purchase from Verizon are locked for 60 days after purchase… After 60 days, we will automatically remove the lock"verizon.com. This 60‑day rule (no mention of any extra payment) remains in effect for all postpaid devices.
Verizon Prepaid: Likewise, Verizon's published policy locks prepaid phones only 60 days after activation, with no additional paid‑service requirementverizon.com. After 60 days the lock is removed. In other words, Verizon's own prepaid service is unaffected by any new policy – it still follows the standard 60‑day unlocking ruleverizon.com.
Verizon MVNOs ("Value" brands): By contrast, Verizon's affiliated prepaid brands (the "Verizon Value" or MVNO carriers such as TracFone, Straight Talk, Visible, Total Wireless, etc.) have new unlock rules effective 4/1/2025. Under those rules a device is only unlocked after 60 days of paid service in addition to 60 days after activation. For example, a summary of the Value‐brand policy states that phones activated on Verizon's network will unlock only "60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service"tracfonereviewer.blogspot.com. In practice this means two months of service (roughly $60 in prepaid charges) must be paid before the unlock occurs. Visible (Verizon's own mobile app brand) explicitly confirms this in its terms: after 4/1/2025 a phone "will automatically unlock 60 days after activation date with two months (60 days) of paid active service now required"doctorofcredit.com.
In summary: Verizon's official policies for its postpaid and prepaid plans remain a simple 60‑day wait (no mention of extra fees)verizon.com. The only parties subject to the new 60‑day paid‑service requirement are the Verizon‑based MVNO brands (Straight Talk, TracFone, Visible, etc.)tracfonereviewer.blogspot.comdoctorofcredit.com. Postpaid customers and Verizon's own prepaid customers are still eligible for unlock after 60 days in good standing, as beforeverizon.com.

Yes I agree that VZW Prepaid deals on iPhones tend to show up randomly and they are not always present. As someone who is a bit more familiar with T-Mobile than Verizon, I am aware that customer support reps aren't always going to tell you the truth. Plus as mentioned in this thread, Visible had that problem a few months ago, I think people bought the 13 and those who switched their active line to a new phone didn't all get their phones unlocked, even though Visible unlock policy didn't require 60 days of active service at the time--customer support reps were still telling people that 60 days of active service was required.
I am really happy with my 16e. For a total of ~$410 for the phone with two months of service and tax, I believe it is a great deal. Comparing it to my previous experience iPhone 13, 16e beats it hands down being much smooth and snappier.
Ironically, 14 and 14 plus I believe, also have the same processor as the 13 I had. Another reason I believe this deal isn't that great.

Thanks for your explanation and I agree. But personally, I would still do a second month for $25 just to avoid this possible hassle of dealing with Verizon support, FCC complaints etc. But that's just me.

Where are you getting "consecutive 60 days" from? New Unlock policy just says 60 days of active service… so if it lapses and you still get 60 days in then you are good
Yes the 14 and 14 Plus have the same processor, but reportedly have more RAM (6 GB compared to 4 GB) than the 13. Also a few new features, including the crash detection, satellite SOS capability, I think better image stabilization for video...that's what I can think of at the moment.
Does anybody know if you can trade in a phone on this deal? I tried a couple times and keeps telling me I have two carts open?
My wife has an iphone X plus 512gb. She's adamant about the big screen and the 512 gb and this is one of the few deals that check both boxes...and I want to stay married.

Also, yes, I agree, the 16e deal was a bit better (even if a bit more expensive) as long as one didn't want the larger screen.

2 different reps gave me 2 different answers 1 told we need 2 months service. Another mentioned its fine if we don't renew, after giving it some thought i purchased a month of service a week later early today
But, why would Verizon's web page describing their Unlock Policy have a dedicated section to outline the requirements for prepaid, and not mention that 60 days of active service would be required for unlocking the phone? (https://www.verizon.com/about/con...ing-policy) There is no mention of 60 days of active service being required.
And, the Tracfone unlock policy that was changed to require 60 days of active service has a host of brands on this webpage, and that neither Visible nor Verizon Prepaid is on the page, even if they do mention that "Verizon Value" brands are covered in the policy? The way one could interpret this is that Verizon Value is in charge of the policy for the Tracfone brands, but only the Tracfone brands are listed. (https://www.tfwunlockpo
At minimum, there is uncertainty about whether people getting this deal could get an unlock if they pay for one month.

I think these are pretty different markets and it really comes down to screen size. I'm a fan of the 14 plus specifically. I think it's incredible value for the price. Any iPhone that's 2 models old has depreciated a lot, but still packs a lot of the features you probably want.
