Upon checking with customer support online, this does require 60 days of uninterrupted service to get unlocked. Also for someone who already has a line active, adding a new line can get the $60 plan for $40 or lower (with auto pay).

Also. embracing for the time machine jokes, I still think 16e 128gb at $299 for the phone, was a better deal and might come back - far superior processor, 8gb ram, Apple AI support, longer os update support, convenient usb-c port instead of lightning etc. These far outweigh the potential advantages from 14 plus - 256gb, dual camera, magsafe, larger screen size etc for me.
Not true for everyone/every use case, agreed. YMMV

Is this something where you can get the device, pay a month, and then bail? And if so, could the phone be unlocked? (Sorry, if this is an ignorant question, I'm a noob.)

Yeah, the policy changes since April 1st has caused a lot of confusion. I purchased the 16e precisely on April 1 and despite the policy changes being published after I bought and they are not the same for Verizon prepaid as for mnvos, I am still going to recharge another month for my 16e, given it will need me to pay ($60 - $25 monthly discount on 16e deal - $10 from auto pay = $25) only. If I don't pay for the 2nd month and Verizon refuses to unlock in lack of 60 days of service, then worst case, I will have to pay for another consecutive 60 days at a much higher rate since I will loose the $25 discount. So, for $25+tax more, I am willing to pay to avoid any such risk.
YMMV

Anyone got a $20 credit today? I got it and I have another credit, which should cover the renewal for this month.

i did! and another discount on top of that. my regular bill should have been 60 but with a 20 credit and this other 20, it became 20 for this month for me...
headleygrange and RagingWaffle, when is your second billing date? I ask because is it coming up very soon? Mine is upcoming on June 29, but I did not receive any such credit(s).

Not seeing any additional credits, just $30/monthly. Renews soon so still debating what to do.

Do I need to have it unlocked if I'm moving from this Verizon prepaid to my traditional Verizon account?

It's the $20 credit that was part of this deal. Verizon added the credit on the day my plan was renewed.

Dumb, noob question.... after the 60 day threshold is met, am I able to take this phone to ATT prepaid and use it there? I'm old and come from the days of the caveman when VZN phones would not work on GSM networks and vice versa.

That's correct. All modern iPhones will work on any network, as long as they're unlocked. Verizon is no longer on just a CDMA network; that's when they were incompatible with GSM-only phones. Now all modern iPhones (including the 14 series, this one) can be used on any network nationwide and worldwide; you just have to actually make sure it gets unlocked by Verizon after the 60 (paid?) days,

Can I choose a new phone number, then after 60 days transfer this to my VISIBLE account and use my current phone number?
It won't accept my visible phone number.
Thank you.

If we want to use it just as a WiFi device, can it be done?

It's a brand new phone on Verizon's Prepaid service. It's not a "Preowned" phone.
The agent told me I have to buy 10 months services plans in order to get this deal. Is this true?

No. The "10 months deal" refers to getting a $20 credit per month for 10 months of service, with the first $20 credit being applied at the beginning of the 2nd month of service. But, you are NOT obligated to have 10 months of service to get this deal price. For most here, we're getting the device for $250 (or $300 for the 512 GB model) plus taxes/fees, and paying for TWO months of service, to reach 60 days, after which the phone should be unlocked by Verizon (that's the goal, at least). You are free to stay on for 11 months (the last 10 which will get $20 off your bill), for a total of $200 back in bill credits, but most probably won't because there are far cheaper plans out there with other carriers that you can use an unlocked phone on.
