Upon checking with customer support online, this does require 60 days of uninterrupted service to get unlocked. Also for someone who already has a line active, adding a new line can get the $60 plan for $40 or lower (with auto pay).

Also. embracing for the time machine jokes, I still think 16e 128gb at $299 for the phone, was a better deal and might come back - far superior processor, 8gb ram, Apple AI support, longer os update support, convenient usb-c port instead of lightning etc. These far outweigh the potential advantages from 14 plus - 256gb, dual camera, magsafe, larger screen size etc for me.
Not true for everyone/every use case, agreed. YMMV

Is this something where you can get the device, pay a month, and then bail? And if so, could the phone be unlocked? (Sorry, if this is an ignorant question, I'm a noob.)

Yeah, the policy changes since April 1st has caused a lot of confusion. I purchased the 16e precisely on April 1 and despite the policy changes being published after I bought and they are not the same for Verizon prepaid as for mnvos, I am still going to recharge another month for my 16e, given it will need me to pay ($60 - $25 monthly discount on 16e deal - $10 from auto pay = $25) only. If I don't pay for the 2nd month and Verizon refuses to unlock in lack of 60 days of service, then worst case, I will have to pay for another consecutive 60 days at a much higher rate since I will loose the $25 discount. So, for $25+tax more, I am willing to pay to avoid any such risk.
YMMV

I currently have VISIBLE, can I still get this deal? If so how, because when I enter my visible phone number it says:Sorry! That number can't be transferred.
Just get a new number if you want to purchase the phone. You don't have to transfer your number.

It's the $20 credit that was part of this deal. Verizon added the credit on the day my plan was renewed.
How much did you end up paying on your renewal date? In other words, my question really is, did they apply a single $20 credit for your renewal date earlier this month, or did they apply $40 credit this month?

Also, did you get one phone or did you get more than one phone? Some of the earlier reports were from people getting more than one phone, and there is a multi-line discount that gets applied sometimes (so, just checking if you have a single-line plan when considering how much in credits Verizon gave).

No. The "10 months deal" refers to getting a $20 credit per month for 10 months of service, with the first $20 credit being applied at the beginning of the 2nd month of service. But, you are NOT obligated to have 10 months of service to get this deal price. For most here, we're getting the device for $250 (or $300 for the 512 GB model) plus taxes/fees, and paying for TWO months of service, to reach 60 days, after which the phone should be unlocked by Verizon (that's the goal, at least). You are free to stay on for 11 months (the last 10 which will get $20 off your bill), for a total of $200 back in bill credits, but most probably won't because there are far cheaper plans out there with other carriers that you can use an unlocked phone on.
I just got charged $32.50 for renewal ($20 discount associated with this promo, and $10 autopay discount). Though I am sure that in different locations, the taxes/fees component may be higher or lower. For that price, even if it's deprioritized data, some of the aspects of the plan might make it worth it for some, including in-store support, phone support, and some of the international talk/text/data capabilities.

Though I fully agree with you that most people probably will get other, cheaper plans after the phone unlocks.

If I already have Verizon can I just switch my SIM card out and start using the new phone? My current phone is busted.

This person bought one of these phones to use on Verizon postpaid. YMMV on getting it to work on postpaid and being comfortable with the uncertainty about whether the phone will ever get unlocked if you don't keep it active on the network for 60 days after activation. There is no switching of SIM cards into a phone from the iPhone 14 series if it's made for the US market. You will have to convert to eSIM.

But yeah you could get this deal with a new phone number so as to keep your existing Verizon account open while still getting a new phone.

I was unable to port my Visible number to the new phone, so I'd like to port my number out to a third-party carrier and then from there port it to Verizon Prepaid. Will that work? Any recommendations for third-party carrier to use for that?

I paid the second month ($32.50 in my case) on 5/29, so 60 days is coming up soon, around 6/29. When do I cancel the plan to ensure it still unlocks after 60 days without paying a 3rd month?

Disable autopay. That's it. No need to cancel.

Yup, just turn off auto-pay, and it won't auto-renew for a 3rd month.

Please do post an update on your Day # 60 and let us know your unlock status! (Thank you in advance)

I called and complained that they activated the phone before I received it. For the inconvenience, they gave me a $30 credit. I'm covered for 2nd month .

FYSA, it is impossible to have a different shipping and billing address on the Verizon website so you cannot complete check out if that is your situation. Quite ridiculous really.

Read somewhere online that they have a problem with shipments. In a Fedex Shipment center, an employee said that Verizon have problems with apartment deliveries specially with non matching info or missing details even though common sense would say otherwise.

Best of luck.

That's correct. All modern iPhones will work on any network, as long as they're unlocked. Verizon is no longer on just a CDMA network; that's when they were incompatible with GSM-only phones. Now all modern iPhones (including the 14 series, this one) can be used on any network nationwide and worldwide; you just have to actually make sure it gets unlocked by Verizon after the 60 (paid?) days,
Thank you!!!
