When I watched episodes 4-6 for the first time, the music jumped out at me as an instant must-buy. I've seen all the other Star Wars movies and most of the TV series (I haven't seen Andor yet) and I never noticed the music other than John Williams' earlier themes they reused. The new music isn't bad, but it doesn't seem good either. It's just there.. It won't knock you off your seat good like episodes 4-6.
The point is John Williams, and Elton John also comes to mind, lost their "mojo" sometime in the 1980's. Sure, Jurassic Park had some good moments and Hook was excellent, but after that his work was meh. John Williams once admitted this in an interview when he said he doesn't have to work as hard and gets paid more now that he has a well established catalog. Does someone with enough talent to write Empire Strikes Back (the GOAT), Superman, E.T., and Raiders of the Lost Ark suddenly lose his talent? No. John Williams and Elton John simply got lazy. The Simpsons episodes were generally great until the actors started getting paid 1 million+ per episodes and the quality dropped off a cliff. 1970's Elton John of Yellow Brick Road, Crocodile Rock, Philadelphia Freedom is radically different from anything he did in more recent years.
Salieri said it best in Amadeus: "Mediocrity everywhere. I absolve you. I absolve you."
Everyone should own the classic John Williams movie scores, but his later career is mediocrity. I own all the old Elton John stuff and the old Simpsons seasons. It's too bad quality always declines over time. I'll get off my soapbox.
