Agreed, if this thing has a m3-8100Y, then it is definitely not worth more than $100, especially when i3-1215u/N300 laptops are regularly found for 225-300.
But then got m1 air for $400 and this device have been dead for me. I also wanted Firefox and it's addon (unlock for me), so moving out of chromebook wasn't choice. Only reason I wanted CB was stellar battery life then m1 Mac changed my opinion.

Mine was really starting to drag last time I used it though. I discovered it was largely the result of having Android virtualization enabled though. Once I disabled it breathed new life back into the old device. That said, it's still not a very powerful device either in performance or function (Chrome OS is pretty limited as it is and even more so without Android apps).

But then the screen glitch that plagued a few of these hit, at only 2.5 years old. So now I'm looking at either another (semi) premium CB or exploring the alternative of a used Mac or Thinkpad-level laptop and use Linux, which I have running on 2 old laptop (my last CB and a 2018 Win laptop)
What's the buying advice on that front? particularly the Mac side, I guess. I was a Mac user but when I picked up a decent CB for half the price of a new iPad--and it had a keyboard before iPads did that, I didn't look back but maybe now is the time

CB had its place pre 2020 where windows sucked or mac was too expensive, with $500 mac air, the problem no longer exists. For highschoolers, i would trust more on mac than Google prying on kids.

Are you running Apple's iOS? and if so, I guess how do you find it?
I just got tired of how apple managed photos and music and always had stuff going on in the background. Since I truly can do everything I need on a Chromebook, but unhappy about offerings in the mid and upper tiers, I had resigned to either a refurb or used CB with good specs, like my Acer Spin (3:2 display, "yoga" style tablet, with decent ram, storage, and keyboard; "mil-spec" but bad luck on display starting to glitch) OR an enterprise laptop that's a couple years old and use Fedora or Chrome Flex type option.
A Mac has the build quality and display I want though, that's for sure, both of which I've decided are high priority now

I dont think you would miss anything in mac os that is only in CB.
