If you want to build a computer, go for it. That said, I find these conversations hilarious when we're talking about a desktop that has an RTX 4090 and costs the same price as just a 4090 on the secondary market. Buy vs. build discussions make sense when you can build something cheaper than you can buy it pre-built and/or pick your parts and get exactly what you want for about the same money as a pre-built and end up with something that's more upgradeable and/or higher quality parts. I have built a computer from scratch before. It can be fun, and it can be a cool project to do with your kid. I get it - I really do. But with pricing what it currently is, anyone looking at these recent Alienware deals - especially if you have 1 or more significant cash back offers - and thinking that ANY other deals (or going the BYO route) make sense is just not thinking rationally.

I just looked on eBay and the literal cheapest current listing for a new RTX 4090 is $2600 + tax. With just a single CB site, you could get this entire system for almost $175 less than that. If you have additional offers through Chase, C1, AMEX, etc., it could be potentially a hundred (or more) cheaper than that.

It would cost you at least close to $4k to build something similar to this desktop that can be had here well under $2500. While upgradeability is nice, for the most part by the time people want to upgrade something other than an SSD or ram, they're going to want a new CPU which in 4 or 5 years will probably also mean a new socket (so a new mobo) and a new GPU. At that point, who cares if you have to buy a whole new computer?

Shows $3,099.99 for me... Coupon code?

So if you would have read the post or even the title. You'd know you have to apply the 10% coupon to get that price...

I wonder what 4090 they are using; if it can be transplanted to another PC.

Edit: looks like OEM, Dell outsources to partners like PNY and MSI. Might be the cheapest path to a new 4090.

When I posted the comment there was no details about the coupon code... I of course read the post, the OP forgot to give the details.

Would love to be able to combine CB site plus the Dell 10% but it seems like most are getting denied due to CB policies.

What other companies make pre-builds that are just as good if not better than Dell that have good deals once in a while? Preferrable nonproprietary parts. If the motherboard or PSU goes on these then they can't be replaced.

Microcenter (powerspec) and newegg (abs) prebuilts are all standard parts. Cyberpower, starforge, ibuypower as well.

Unfortunately, no Microcenter by me. I'm aware of the other builders you mentioned by I never see amazing deals like Dell has. Especially with the cashback deals and Amex offers that Dell accepts.

depends on your budget. starforge is expensive but a great product. your requirements yell build your own to me... if youre able to replace a bad mobo you could def build your own
