yeah, thhis seems great for upgrading an old system. Though if on windows, I can't imagine this would be an upgrade for long since even windows 10 is about to lose support.
I have mine running Samsung SSD 128 GB on an I3 with no problems, just make sure the old computer has good air circulation

That being said, you can get a 500gb SD card (with a really good adapter) for $30 so this is a questionable choice unless you're specifically going for the cheapest SATA drive available

I had to put Windows 7 down when Chrome told me that the OS was too insecure to continue providing updates for. I mean I guess it's fine if you do no banking, and nothing of value on the computer, but the lack of any security updates should be a concern, especially for non computer literate people who are most likely using systems that old.
Marriott hotel I worked at - I was part of hardware upgrade for entire hotel.
We had to disassemble old hardware before they got recycled/shredded:
Nearly 80% of the old computers (formerly HDD) had these freaking Kingston 240GBs in them.
The ones that didn't, had a HDD and boy were they SLOW.
But no I don't "believe what Google says". I believe what every security researcher on the planet will tell you. Browser, OSes etc without regular security updates are insecure and rapidly become laughably so. Unfortunate, but that's the reality.
