I've read this. I will say that the principles in this book are useful and have utilized them at times in meetings. The skills seem simple enough, but in real situations it feels awkward at first as it goes against your desire/human nature to "fill the space." It takes practice, which almost has to be in real-time trial and error. Initially I was in situations where after the fact I'm like, "dang, I should have..." If you are someone that has meetings where you are regularly advocating or that can be contentious, it is quite useful. I could see where these skills would be useful in sales and customer service/ service recovery as well.

In negotiations, the discount price (that he has no control over) has nothing to do with this.

His example was the husband wants to wear Black shoes, spouce says wear Brown. So he compromises and wears one Black shoe and one Brown shoe.

This is worth reading. The skills described in the book aren't the magical game-changers that they claim to be, but it's still really useful, practical advice for a variety of situations.

And it's a very easy read, with a lot of cool stories about hostage negotiations from the author's career.

Read around 50 pages and skimmed the rest.The book isn't worth $2.
3/4 of the book is bs with the remainder useful tips, which from the author's account mirrors most hostage negotiations.
Honestly I could probably have a discussion with chatgpt or have it roleplay negotiations and I would learn more.

Worth it at 1.99. Bought it, read it. Confirmed a few things I knew and did but also organized approach to some methods I didn't. WS probably worth $20 back in the 1990's (some of the context are obviously dated 25 years later but concepts solid). Hostage and FBI references interesting, but found other bits practical in work or home life (car buying, job raise or promotion). Actually Used one in traffic court ( ask for something non monetary, plus few others ) and had minor speeding changed from fine and points to few hours helping at community building ) . Worth the $1.99.
