Yea. Bright is relative to your surroundings I guess. Seems like a ton of light when you're in the pitch dark haha.

Bought this from the last slick deal. It seems fine. You get what you pay for. It's not terribly bright. It doesn't seem terribly durable, but durable enough for the money probably yes.

The last time this was posted somebody mentioned the harbor freight version. We had a power outage yesterday and that little lantern through out a TON of light. I think it was like $4-5. Glad I went that route

I just checked, at least in my area, the 250 lumens lamp at Harbor Freight is $3 (in store only). The 500 lumens lamp is $5. Certainly seems like a better deal considering 250 lumens is barely a trickle of light.

For reference, a typical 60W-equivalent light bulb is around 800-850 lumens, which means this thing is 3 times less bright than a single typical light bulb. That's really weak. I guess it's better than no light in a camping trip, but, like you, I would use this for the occasional power-outages.

The Harbour Freight version is definitely worth the drive for it. Super bright.

I just want to let anybody that's interested in this. I have a couple of them. They're not bad. They're not super bright, so don't expect that they're just enough to see in a general area or to give a little light to a seating area. Good enough for camping but for the price it's excellent. Very good on battery life. Just not super bright

I have 2 of these and I agree with what most people are saying; not terribly bright, but bright enough for power outages or in a tent at night at this price. I usually give them to my kids to use and they have lasted a couple of years now so they have decent durability. My favorite aspect is the ability to use 2 or 4 AA batteries. If you're in a pinch and low on batteries in an outage, you can still use it with only 2 and get decent light. I have a HF right by my house, so I will check out their 500 Lumen one people have mentioned - thanks! I'm a bit of a lantern/flashlight hoarder though. haha

I use it for nightlight in staircase. The batteries last a long time for daily use in the evening.
I probably need to replace the 4 batteries once a month.

I remember back before the white LED existed. When it got dark, we all just slumped over and passed out helplessly until the rays of the morning sun brought us back to life the next day.

I also have a pair and like that I can forget them outside in a light rain and still have power left the next day or two. They are also good for kids if you don't want to burn thru batteries.
