That's probably easier said than done. The OEM cable has 6 extra pins besides +/-, and there's a good chance it'll just refuse to work if it can't 'communicate' with an attached Ecoflow unit.

It's a near certainty the alt charger needs whatever kind of modification their XT60 adapter has, in order for it to output to plain XT60.
Disagree. This person used only the power +, - wires without data pins and he's able to charge power station using XT-60 port. I believe data pins allow alternator charger to draw power from power station to source battery, ie bidirectional charging.

The vendor lock-in by EcoFlow is just insane on this equipment and the cabling. They are so aggressive with using proprietary cabling, communications, and designs to charge high margins. They also actively work to update firmware and software to disable workarounds people find. The upcoming subscription service for app features also isn't a good sign.

If I recall correctly, members of some forums have begun the process of reverse engineering some of their protocols - a welcome step.

Hopefully some other manufacturers step in with open, unrestricted devices and cables. Pecron's battery is a good step, but there's also others that are just enabling the use of simple off-the-shelf expansion batteries with standard cables
Serious question...what do people even use this for?

Just a data point, I bought a Delta 3 Plus a couple months ago from EcoFlow directly during one of their sales for $599 and didn't select any upgrade packages like solar panels, etc. After I received and registered the device, I was offered to pick one of several accessories at very good prices. I went with this alternator charger for $199 NIB (I think it was around $400 at the time). It's worked great on road trips to quickly charge the Delta 3 during longer stretches of driving.

FWIW, the second gen of this unit is out. Note that this one (I have it) only works with some of the Ecoflow models whereas the new version has the solar charging plug and can be used with ANY Ecoflow model that has solar input, and also with competing brands that have a solar input. For me, this means that the new model supports my legacy River Pro 2 and even older River Pro and Delta (first gen).

I put this in a waterproof box, added quick disconnects to the ends, and added quick disconnects to my car's battery terminals, now when I need it I can just connect it at whim regardless of which car I take.

Can you point me to which disconnects you use?

Isn't the newer model just a lower powered (500W vs 800W) and cheaper version of this one but with an XT60 connector for greater compatibility of devices? There is an XT60 adapter for the 800W model too.

That's pretty cool. That means there should be generic cables that don't cost $80 coming out.

Can you point to where the XT60 adapter is for the 800W model? I've scoured Ecoflow's website and eBay and I don't see what you're referring to. Yes, the newer one is a 500W model with an XT60 connector which makes the use universal to most brands.

They probably meant this: https://us.ecoflow.com/products/e...2620679241

In the description, "The cable is compatible with EcoFlow or third-party portable power stations equipped with an XT60 input port."

Does not mention specific about the Alternator Charger 500w.

I would encourage anyone to buy a refurbished one because I did and literally got a brand new one sealed in the box. Will be hooking it up to a delta 2 and connect a battery to it.

you no longer need solar panels to charge your battery banks. Your vehicle will do it for you while you drive.
Also this has bi-directional charging which means you can keep your car key in the accessories mode and use your radio or for people with tablet screens can watch videos without worrying about draining the car battery. This allows your battery bank to keep the vehicle battery topped up.
