You're preferences aren't everyone's. There's gonna be some low tech user on here that read your nonsense and believe it, or at least ask why and realize (hopefully) that you've just wasted their time.

I'll take a slim laptop over fullsize any day, because I travel a lot and already have a desktop at home.
Serious question as I appreciate you and the many deals you post. Are there any in the price range, sub-$500, that are currently available that you'd recommend over this? Maybe even under $600. I posted this not only because I thought it was slick, but to get feedback as we're purchasing a laptop for my son who is entering college. TIA

Hey bud hopefully this catches you in time. Just looking through recent deals, here are two that are dramatically better machines than this at two different price points sub 600.https://slickdeals.net/f/18290662-acer-aspire-14-ultra-5-226v-16gb-ram-512gb-ssd-touchscreen-1200p-499-99?v=1&src=SiteSearchFor 500 this gives you a processer that is comparable, BUT the integrated graphics on the 226V are actually useable for some light gaming. Like this can even play some recent AAA titles on medium settings, and anything more than a few years old should run well at high. Battery life should be decent as well, copilot+ qualified if that matters to you (it may to him), Also a 16:10 aspect ratio screen which is super nice in day to day use, it's what most higher end laptops are coming with now, never seen it on one this cheap personally. Twice the battery life, half a lb less on weight, a little thinner. Metal body (important since college kids are violent lol). https://slickdeals.net/f/18289327-ymmv-asus-vivobook-pro-15-open-boxes-15-6-fhd-oled-intel-ultra-7-155h-rtx-3050-6gb-16gb-ddr5-1tb-ssd-584-99?v=1&src=SiteSearchThen THIS if he specifically wanted a 16 inch class would be my pick in the sub 600 range today. The CPU is 25-30% faster than the two above (IGPU is worse, but this has a dedicated GPU so it doesn't matter). With a dedicated GPU, the system won't rely on the systems 16 GBs of ram to share like the other two. About a lb heavier, similar battery life to the lenovo you posted worse than the aver, because IGPU and faster CPU and bigger/brighter screen. MUCH brighter screen at 400 nits vs 250-300 for the other two and this imo is a BIG plus in favor of this machine. Wajahat says it's 600 nits in the title, not sure if a type on his part or Best BUys. If it's 600 nits then it's an absolutely top tier display brightness wise. Also double the SSD space which may matter. All in all I would take the Asus vivobook>the ASpire>>>>>this lenovo. Obviously price differences etc.
Thank you very much for your suggestions. Have a good one.

Good point.Looking at all the complaints, I wish these laptop brands would add a third hinge to increase durability: left, right, and center hinges.Or it could just be planned obsolescence - manufacturers have no interest in durability these days :-(
that's not a good point, read the reviews...people baby these things and the hinges still break

I found a similar Acer Aspire at Costco (I'm a member) to the one you mentioned, which I'm waiting to go on sale. It has a 1Tb ssd. The rest appears comparable to the one on ebay. https://www.costco.com/acer-aspir...ue&nf=true

Nice. So if you are at all technically inclined, you can buy the one on eBay, plus a replacement SSD of 1TBs for like 50 bucks, grab a USB C enclosure for 25. Pull the current one when it comes in (this iwll not void your warranty anymore), put it in the enclosure, put the new drive in, copy the data over. Out the other side for 575 you would have the Costco laptop+ a half terabyte portable SSD.

Well.... nowadays you have to pick the best of the worst.
I bought a cheap Lenovo Chromebook and I was very surprised at its low quality screen BUT I will never ever buy a HP again !! [youtube.com]
Good to know. I've done well with my Dell and have bought refurbished ones too. You gotta be careful with a lot of the cheap brands though because of the hinges

After spending a few hours researching comparable notebooks, this looks like it is the best replacement for my 5-year-old ASUS that just fell out of my backpack, landed on the corner and cracked the touchscreen .AngryCrying2

I added the 4-year warranty as it covers any drops, spills or issues (such as hinges).

Thanks OP!

on Lenovo forums, they say to stay away from Flimsy Idea pads, get the real think pads.
then they will talk about the 'Last Great Lenovo' laptops which were the T480 laptops that you could replace/upgrade Ram and SSD (thanks again and again Apple for the idiot Thin types of laptops, please go away. far away)
of course you must buy them Refurbished now, because the ignorant bought into Thin laptops destroying it for the rest of us.
Guess who bought 2 of the Last great Lenovos, and 2 Dells of the same repairable types. easy to fix, repair and upgrade, thank you.
and they upgrade to Windows 11 with 8th generation Intel chips, yur welcome.
All laptops should be Repairable, do you buy a car that isn't repairable? oops i found out they are doing this to cars too, buying used ones now that are.

For win laptops, I noticed the companies produced laptops with soldered RAM only during that period. Most recent laptops come with non-soldered RAM.
thanks. i thought the Apple insanity in the Windows world was permanent.
who wants a Laptop that you can't replace the SSD, Ram, battery and components ???

um, i don't

We've had plenty of better deals for this price or a bit more previously, instead of this one with 5 generations old processor. No idea why it's even being thumbed up.
agree. I'm looking for a ~$400 laptop. Can you help with a decent deal?
