Both sets are similar and functionally about the same, but there are some differences.

CMMT45256 comes in a 2-drawer hard case, which is lighter and more compact, ideal for portability.

CMMT45306 features a 3-drawer Versastack box, part of a modular system for customizable storage, but it's heavier and larger.

Socket count is slightly different between the sets but probably nothing you will notice much.

This has come through way handier than I thought. I have it sitting on a bench in the garage and nine times out of then I don't grab my better tools, just use these because it is convenient and it works.

Standard price for the husky set like this, I'm guessing this is comparable. No need to rush on this one

I would buy this set. It has more pieces that are relevant for car repair. It has hex and torx sockets which are useful on cars. It also has more wrenches. The set you listed had a lot of special bits that are not likely as useful for car repairs.

I wouldn't say one isn't better than the other. They are just geared towards different things. In my opinion the 230 piece set is better for mechanics because of the deep sockets and extension bars. There are fewer sockets but you're only missing out on the smaller 1/4 inch drive sockets which you don't tend to use when doing mechanic work.
On the other hand the 256 piece set has a lot more smaller sockets and screwdriver bits. So if you don't own a bit set for your screwdriver and or you're going to be doing light duties/small stuff, that one is probably better.
Personally I would go with a 230 piece set. You can always buy a screwdriver bit set for $10-$20. It also comes with seven more deep sockets which can be very handy. If you want to buy each one of those individually you'd probably be paying around five dollars a piece or more depending on brand. Also that one extra extension bar can be very handy! It also has the socket bit adapter and also by the picture, it has the adapter to go from 3/8 drive down to 1/4 inch drive.

For people who have mixed TSTAK with Versastak, does it lock up 100% or is there a little more play between the two when combining?

This is a great set in a fantastic box. I'm giving away my old craftsman clam shell box set. The sockets and wrenches were always flying all over the place. What a mess.i passed on this the first time it was on sale, but not this time.

It's the same tolerance regardless of mixing the two

The box is very heavy, not sure how it compares to other, but it's a pain to lift off the shelf.
