Yes the batteries are interchangeable. I like mine better than my old Ryobi and its handled all my projects very well over the past like 3-4 years. If you are willing to wait sometimes Lowes will discount the combo set at like $100 or something.

As long as your other equipment is V20. The older 20volt equipment takes a different battery.

The drill has a 3-jaw chuck made to tighten down on round drill bits. The impact driver has a hex quick-connect made for screwdriver bits or socket holders.

You can put bit/socket adapters in the drill, or drill bit adapters in the impact driver, but the impact has the added feature of weights that swing around and periodically hit (impact) fixed pins when the driver has resistance on it, helping to break nuts/bolts loose (or tight).

Not to be confused with a hammer drill (which Craftsman also sells, though I don't think this one has it) that has a setting to hammer the bit linearly (as opposed to circularly in an impact) which is helpful if you're drilling into masonry, as the little hammer strikes help break the material in front of the tip.

I have one, and it works great! I would look for a bigger combo pack, though. You can get a really great deal if you get a whole pile of their tools at once.

The drill isn't anything special, fine for the average home owner. What makes this a good deal is the inclusion of the normal charger rather than that super slow one you often find in deals like this.
