BJs is great for food and grocery. They don't rotate products like Costco does, that's a plus in my opinion as I always can expect whats in the store instead of treasure hunting. I also love the curbside pickup at bjs, saves me time and effort. free for 50 dollars or more orders, other wise $3.99 fee.

If I go to Costco, I know I will overspend. That won't happen at bjs.

Worked for me. I have two different emails. I let one expire and am a new member with the other. $15 and they gave me a new member coupon for $5 off any purchase and a bunch of other new member coupons.

If you want to play the game of using different emails to avail yourself of a new member discounted membership, make sure you turn off Easy Renewal in your current account settings. It is set on by default..

Pretty much most of the Wellsley Farms stuff. Bakery items, packaged "fresh" meal kits (especially the taco kits), etc. all taste horrible compared to places like Costco. The taco kits look identical to Costco kit, but do not taste anywhere near the same. Even some of the boxed pantry goods are either bad tasting or very inconsistent from box to box. We've had granola bars taste great one box and then the next box taste terrible dry and stale. Another thing to note about our BJs is that we encounter a lot of items with very short expiration dates. Much shorter than what we see at any other store (including standard grocery). Makes it impossible for a family to use up anything that is a bulk purchase.

This is the best deal I've seen so far with BJs. I recently paid $18 through Groupon.
They sometimes run better deals where you get a reward back equal to or greater than the membership fee. I think when I joined last year it was $10 with a $30 reward after your first purchase.

The offer timings seem random and often targeted on Facebook.

One thing I'll note from having a BJ's membership this past year for the first time in a while, they offer lot of $10 off purchase coupons (or sometimes rewards back) which save a lot over the course of a year.

Also, they are the only club that accepts coupons, 1 per product in a multi-pak and can be combined with their digital savings. Picked up alot of cheap sunscreen last year combining $2 off hang-tag coupons (2 pack of Coppertone on sale for $8.99 combined two $2 off coupons plus two $2 digital coupons)

I agree the prepared food isn't great and limited in selection.

I do like they have a deli with good prices.

They have a decent amount of clearance products and have scored som great deals, like $2 sweatshirts and $10 winter boots. Got some NCAA licensed Penn State gear on clearance for $4.97 per shirt the other week.

No pharmacy (I use the club pharmacies to get cheap generic Sudafed)

Stores are a little sad in terms of lighting and people, but I like it's not busy most of the time.

One important note: for some reason, you can't use your digital reciepts to return something. They need the paper recipes to scan the barcode, otherwise you just get a gift card, which is really weird since it's all on the app and in their system.

agreed, Costco/Sams will kill it. or acquire?
Our first BJ's just opened here back in February, and we've had Sam's basically since Sam's first started (I actually don't like Sam's because the one closest to me is a very dumpy and dated store that opened in the 80s that doesn't even sell a lot of the products other stores have, I didn't realize until I happened to stop in a newer one from this century that Sam's isn't so bad) and Costco since about 2010 or so. I've been to BJ's a handful of times, and while I agree with the sentiment that they are great for things you buy regularly and Costco is great for the rotated products, I've been astonished at how dead BJ's is inside. I rarely see many other people shopping there and last night they had one person bouncing around from the membership desk to the self checkout to checking receipts, and they weren't staying busy because she also had time to vacuum near the exit while doing it all. I've never seen anybody at the gas pumps. I stopped at Costco afterwards and it was a typical Tuesday night at Costco: hard to find a spot in the parking lot, lines to the middle of the store at checkouts, and bumping into people at every turn.
I want them to succeed because I like it for what it is, but if other stores are like this, I don't see how they can survive.

Signed up today and immediately had a $5 off coupon available in my account, which brings this down to $10 effectively. The coupon is only good for 2 weeks though. Very slick!

Tempted. They have a soundbar $50 cheaper than I can find it anywhere else. They are currently building one near me but won't be open for a while. Might just sign up to get the soundbar cheaper and browse their online stuff.
