How does this compare to a Fluance RT81?
Similar. RT81's got a better (Elliptical) stylus on it, and a more universal headshell, but the listening experience isn't going to be all that different. Main thing this one's got going for is Automatic features. Put the record on the platter, push a button, and it starts playing for you, then returns the arm when it's done. Fluance doesn't do automatic tables.

I have both. Won't be unhappy with either. I prefer the Denon. I'd go with whichever one you can find a better deal on

I couldn't have said it better myself!.... Some people are just so unenlightened on the subject that they automatically think that DJ's are also audiophiles!🤣 Belt-driven turntables have been superior to direct-drive since the day that they were first invented! The only advantage to owning a DD turntable is lower maintenance.
Since the day they were invented? lol ok.
Back in the 70's direct drive turntables were superior to belt drive. Look at any vintage ad or article on Technics, Marantz, or Pioneer and their direct drive turntables.

I paid $249 about 3 months ago for the Denon dp400 which is a direct upgrade over this one. Was a Slickdeals find.

Looks nice. If my Technics SL-D2 that I bought in 1982 stops working I'll be all over this.

Does this include the stylus? A review I watched online showed just the tone arm with no stylus/needle

You mean "cartridge". Stylus and needle are the same thing....except that the term "needle" was last used in 1950.😆

Direct-drive turntables were never "superior" to belt-driven turntables! They were just another option (and a new marketing experiment)....and they were primarily designed for DJ use. Do you look at an ad and determine that something is "superior" based upon the ad? If so, then you're a marketing company's dream!...and the vast majority of articles/reviews are biased (as they're getting paid by the manufacturer). Pay for play is rampant! No unbiased, true audiophile publication ever rated any direct-drive turntable "superior" to a truly audiophile grade, belt-driven turntable. None of the brands that you mentioned produced a turntable that was "superior" to a true, audiophile grade belt-driven turntable.

The price was $299 for the DP-400 (back in December). How were you able get it for $249 (just curious)?

I've never seen a turntable at my Costco. I guess we're uncultured swine in Florida. lol.
Those two things may both be true but they're not exactly related.

WOW! Talk about uninformed. If you measure and compare belt and direct drive, the direct drive will always be superior and more stable. The only thing belt is superior at is being hyped up by the so-called "audiophile" press, who usually dismiss direct-drive because they're snobs. These reviewers most of the time don't measure the turntables, never do proper double-blind comparison tests and just publish their biased opinions (more expensive means better). Even the cheapest Technics turntable today (about $1000), equipped with the same cartridge and the rest of the system, will do as well or better than any belt-drive at any price.

Seems legit: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/...n_productsAmazon: https://a.co/d/1YXyHIUAnd about belt drive. This $3,000 turntable is belt drive: https://www.audioadvice.com/produ...DxEALw_wcBThis $6,500 turntable, belt drive: https://www.audioadvice.com/produ...DxEALw_wcBThis $33,000 turtable, believe or not - belt drive: https://www.linn.co.uk/us/turntables/klimax-lp12Belt drive is generally superior for audiophile turntables. Direct drive is more specific to DJ'ing, which literally no one is doing with this turntable. To put it another way, a good belt drive turntable is like a sports car, while direct drive tables are like work trucks. One isn't necessarily better than the other - it's about getting the right tool for the right job.

Has anyone been able to actually replicate the deal? Thumbs-Ups keep piling up, but no one is reporting a successful purchase.

I actually bought the last one at Merced Costco on Sunday. It was a display item. I get additional discount since it is a display item. It got it for $70

A +32 deal with 3 pages of comments and only one person besides the OP has confirmed replicating the deal. Something is wrong with SD's deal ratings. shake head
