So..I've never even cared for turn-based games or long rpg games other than the third person shooter types, but I'm hooked on this game.
Firstly, visuals and art AND the music scores. Then there's the build up, and story. Then comes the exploration of all the scene scapes, combat, enemy variation, and boss battles. Combat system enstills just the right amount of frustration and will to persevere. Keep trying to win a boss battle, or reskill, reperk, or reevaluate your starting line up to take on those foes.
This game is a spring 2025 must play. Only reason I have any chance to play it is the late night shift holding newborn asleep while on paternity leave but I'm so glad for its release timing... the baby but also the game 😅

This is probably the only turn-based JRPG(ish) game I've ever cared to play; about 8 hours in and absolutely love the game. I've dipped the difficulty a handful of times when I got stuck on a difficult enemy, but otherwise am playing on the intended difficulty and have gotten the hang of it. You don't have to "grind", so much as you need to figure out your enemies attacks and the timing of blocking/countering, since each enemy and each attack has a sweet-spot. It's a bit complicated, but many RPGs are.. I'm getting the hang of it.
Story is great, voice-acting is fantastic.. can't wait for the work week to end so I can get back to it.

Downvote all you want. I'm right. I got all but one small indie game right last year. I'll be right again this year. This is a great game, but this year is all about Kingdom Come.
Death Stranding 2.
Doom Dark Ages
Mgs3 remake
Donkey Kong
Pokemon on switch 2
All gotta beat this for me(realistically ds2 should)

Game is probably 8/10 if you include its flaws. If you give it a pass on the flaws, its 10/10. Acting/cinematics are awesome. Story is one of the best you'll find. I am near the end btw.

It is WAY too early to be crowning any game GOTY. And why does it matter if it wins GOTY or not? It won't make the game better or change the current trajectory of the gaming industry. And it's not like you have to choose between playing this game or playing another GOTY contender (I've already played MHW and Split Fiction).
That said, the game is great and worth it at full price.
