I have two fleece shirts like this from Eddie Bauer. I like the front pocket with zip.
There is no reason to use different material for the front pocket area. I thought it was needed for the front pocket.

I have one ugly shirt with the front pocket using different material from Eddie Bauer.
Then, Eddie Bauer improved the concept and they introduced a shirt with front pocket using the same fleece material. The whole shirt using the same color and same material.

The only reason I can think of wearing that is to get attention from people.
