I can imagine these being great for kids because they're plastic, but when I've used plastic shovels (not this one), they've easily cracked and become brittle over time. I'm wondering how this holds up for adult gardening.

I've had a similar fiskars composite shovel for a few years and got my $2 worth. The tip has worn down some over time, but it has yet to crack. if you are looking for a little shovel, might be worth the $2.39

Are the plastic ones better than the usual metal kind?

The tip on the one I have cracked and broke off recently. I've probably had it for 10-12 years though. I may buy another one of these. I did file a warranty request but havent heard back lol
