The X5's biggest benefit is hopefully one you never have to use, which is a user-replaceable lens. Right now, if a lens gets scratched, your only choice is to send it off to Insta, pay $130 (X4's cost, not sure about the others), and wait up to 2 weeks to get it back. Yes, there are lens guards, but I found that on both the X3/X4 in snow, they'd always have a droplet of water that just clings onto the guard, ruining the shot, and/or they fog up. Don't have any problems in the snow if the lens guards are removed

Since the 360 cameras capture so much, they can do such an incredible job stabilizing heavily moving captures that normal action cameras have no possible chance competing.
Also the Insta360 X5 does a fantastic job exporting FLAT videos (stabilized non-3D videos) right out of the camera, just like other action cameras.
IMHO the Insta360 X5 is the best ACTION camera out on the market right now AND on top of that you get a 360 camera as a bonus.
Downsides? Well, you have to be extra vigilant with those protruding lenses. At least on the X5, they are replaceable.

Despite some of the hype being manufactured, I purchased it and don't regret it.
I wonder if it will increase more. The dji pocket 3 went from $519 to $799.
I'm quite happy with my X4 so far, I definitely want to upgrade but since this is a non crucial items I can wait until the usual sales.
I wish Insta360 does direct Trade-In like Samsung, that makes me buy their watches year after year. 😄

In practical terms the replaceable lens means you also don't really need to use the lens guards anymore, which further improves image quality
