It's essentially a reservation and when made, they pull the item from the shelf and set it aside for you to pick up. To order, add it to cart then provide your contact info and select the store location. When the item is ready for pickup, you'll receive an e-mail. To pickup, you just go to their pickup counter and provide them with your order number and ID and then provide payment.

They did last time MC had these. My closest MCs are ~2-2.5hrs away but BB didn't give me any grief when they pricematched. If you get a stickler who won't because you're not super close to a Microcenter, maybe just try again with another agent.

Great buy though- excellent value. Very pleased with mine from last time - which serves as a very capable 'desktop replacement' - and uses only 2-4.5W of power consumption during real-world use, driving two large format displays (at/near 4K). I barely even use my desktop PC anymore because it uses ~100W to do the same thing, and it's no faster or smoother than the M4 Mini for general use.

Before the usual troll comments.

1 - It has "only" 256gb of storage. Yes, it sucks. USB4/Thunderbolt external NVMe/SSD will be a cheap addition, or get the aftermarket internal chip upgrade.

2 - It's still expensive. Ok, provide a link to machine that has comparable performance and capabilities in a similar form factor for this price.

I had to use the BB chat twice. The first dumbdumb said that the device was OOS in Microcenter. The second one pricematched without any issues.
Dumbdumbs in front line CS chat? Insert shocked face emoji.

Did some research on the best external SSD for this and the best option is to get an external enclosure and an NVME drive for it to attain as close to Thunderbolt 4 speeds as the ports allow. The article gets into the detail but you want an enclosure with the ASM2464PD chipset which should allow up to 3800MB/s read and write if your resulting NVME choice supports it.

Edit: "best" in this case is fastest for cheapest.

Very different machines. Bottom line, do you want Win11 or MacOS? I'm extremely proficient at both (and all flavors of *nix). I have to use Win for work, but prefer Mac for personal use - except gaming (although I do a lot of emulation under Mac). I own a lot of Bee/Minis minipcs for various purposes as well (HA, Prox, PFSense, NVR).

This is a great machine for $450 if you want a desktop machine for web/productivity/photo/video editing/content creation or consumption. But, if you haven't used MacOS before and aren't sure if it's for you, it's a bit of a gamble.
Not much of one, around here you can easily sell them for more than 450 even if used for a few months. Most people don't know about Slickdeals or edu discounts and think 600 is the actual price

I'm generally not one to trust cheap SSDs with important data, but I think in this case it's a lot safer. The most important parts of an SSD are the controller and the NAND chips.

The SSD controller on the Mini is built into the Apple Silicon SoC (System on Chip), so that eliminates it as a factor.

The actual module you buy in essence is just the NAND chips soldered onto a board. Since the controller on the SoC is designed for certain NAND chip specifications, they will most likely be sourced from the same manufacturer that Apple uses. This eliminates the NAND chips as a factor.

The only differentiator would then be the PC board design/manufacturing (which shouldn't be that complex) and a handful of passive component on the board (which are already cheap commodities).
Nand chips they use are made by SanDisk, Toshiba and third Chinese company I don't know about. SanDisk is a bit more expensive than Chinese options and Toshiba even a bit more. The SSD anyway gets formatted when setting it up so would be very curious how they are supposed to install spyware or whatever else people are paranoid about these days

1 - That's a joke of storage -- and ram too -- in 2025. Realistically, base machines should be 32gb ram and 512gb storage (if not 1tb). Seeing these specs is like seeing a normal machine with 128gb storage and 8gb ram just a few years ago. Sure, you COULD get by, but...why would you do yourself?

Those aftermarket chips are sketchy AF, and require you to literally SNAP the machine cover with a bunch of ribbon cables everywhere. It's not meant for the faint of heart or a first time upgrader.

External storage? Sure you could do that. But many of those aren't rated for constant usage, and have much higher failure rates than even the most sketchy internal chips. But hey, if you don't value what you do, that's entirely your call. That's why there are so many options at so many price points.

2 - Yes, it's expensive. There are plenty of small form factor windows machines out there (such as from MINISFORUM). Ones you CAN upgrade the storage and ram. They just don't have a shiny piece of fruit on the cover. But those require a little bit more effort than "being courageous" and plopping down a credit card at a boutique store in an American Mall.

And no, it won't be a 1:1 parity with this machine for cost. Because it'll be a full-featured WINDOWS machine, not an Apple. You'll get MORE RAM and MORE STORAGE and a faster chip, all of which will draw slightly more power. So you'll get the Apple apologists crying foul....crying that it's not "comparable". Sorry, I wouldn't want to use something "comparable" to that Apple in 2025.
Honestly, before apple silicone I would agree with most of what you said but m chips are actually very good. I don't see something comparable in this form factor and this price range. There are mini PCs but ones with vaguely competing specs cost at least this much. 16GB of RAM is just fine for 99% of the users and who the hell cares about internal storage these days...

Firmware based malware is very real.

Who the fark would buy storage from aliexpress and willingly put their data on it??
Because the actual storage is not made by Aliexpress, genius? These third party aftermarket NAND chips are either Sandisk or Toshiba branded, so I'd say the reputations of these brands are decent.

You can get one stateside, at the $320 mark. For potentially $40 of difference, you could argue if it may be worth it, and if tariffs are at play for getting these in. Warranty are probably all the same, domestic or international. Just depends on how much of the $40 or $100 savings is worth to the individual.

The Lexar 1TB SSD from Costco in the other thread would have been the best for this. Crap I missed out.

Glad to see Microcenter is returning to Silicon Valley. Then we Bay Area folks can get some of these deals.

For thos who cannot get BB to price match...
  1. Configure the Mac Mini of your choice
  2. Scroll under "Select Your Store" and find one that is it in stock
  3. Select that store
  4. Copy the link
  5. Google search the zip code to that city
  6. Paste that link into your chat
  7. Tell your BestBuy agent the zip code you just looked up.
They will click your link and see it as in stock and your zip code matches up to that store.

Then order as normal. Say you are ordering for a daughter or son in college and then pick up at your home location.
