I was able to get price match from BB this morning (Atlanta Metro), but I wanted to use PayPal and that's not an option for checkout with a price match, according to the agent.

I suppose I'll just go to Microcenter and buy it if I have to use a normal card to pay. Its only a 35 minute drive and I actually save 1% in tax going there because its one county over with lower rate. I'm not in a rush, but I hope Microcenter doesn't pull this deal without warning.

I drove an hour (had nothing better to do on one Saturday lol) last time to buy M2 pro Mac book at Tustin CA Micro Center. This time I didn't have price matching at BB. i wish I could've used PayPal to earn points.

1% is only $4.50 that's not worth it to make a 35 minute drive

Just price matched at Best Buy online chat. Had to do twice because they will only price match one item at a time. They didn't care there was no Microcenter store anywhere near where I live (California). Upgraded mine and my wife's Window PCs that are about 10 years old. LOL

I was going to wait another year or two before upgrading but this became just too tempting. We mainly do web browsing and a little bit of Word and Excel so this machine should be more than good for us.

Thanks OP!

Well, the BestBuy is 15-20 minutes away in the opposite direction, and I also need to pick up a 2TB SSD at Microcenter for an external enclosure to go with this Mac, so I am actually saving a drive to Best Buy. Have to see the big picture.

In reality, I will be near that Microcenter on other errands this weekend, so it really won't be a 35 minute drive, more like a 5 minute detour...as long as MC doesn't end this deal before Saturday 😬

You can't use OneDrive for editing 4k video files. You need local storage, and lots of it.
Anyone doing serious editing knows that your project data and metadata go on the system drive and media gets stored on external drive, whether that is fiber attached, sata, pci, TB, etc or network based storage. This system will more than work well with 4K files in your NLE of choice.

You'd be best to buy a USB4 external case and fill it with an M.2 SSD. Many people are happy with the Qwiizlab external enclosure here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DP4YZZ1X

OWC makes one that is also praised, but the performance is similar, and OWC wants an extra $50 for their version.

Just fill that with your preference of M.2. Just make sure its NVME and don't worry about getting the fastest/latest. The USB4 will only handle ~3500MB/s in real world use, so even an older PCIe 3.0 drive can saturate that bandwidth. The fastest ones will only make more heat and won't net you any more speed. I am planning on getting the 2TB SK Hynix P31 that Microcenter has for $110. You must be a 'member' to get that price, which just means you need to create and account and reserve it for pickup online. Note: I'm picking up my M4 Mini and the P31 tomorrow afternoon. My local still shows 25+ available so there shouldn't be an issue.

All fully correct, and that will give very good performance (subject to the NVME in there, but around 2800-3400 MB/s tops is possible).
Many might like the cheap solution, which gives only 800-1000MB/s, https://www.amazon.com/ORICO-NVMe...r=1-6&th=1, at just $18 or so.
In real world use the difference is fractions of a second, so for a backup device this would be perfectly fine; for a professional's use as a Photoshop scratch disk I'd spend the extra $60 on the higher end product with USB4.

Given the small size of the internal drive on base model, I plan to use the external for much more than just backups or as a scratch disk. I plan to set it as the default location for for photos, videos, and large programs. There are many tutorials on YT on how to set these things up to keep the internal drive from getting filled up. When you start running programs from the external, the speed will matter.

My concern would be (after making those changes) if the drive is ever disconnected, bad things might happen.
If it's that critical to the workflow, I would look into buying a 2TB internal and replacing it. I know it's not a fun task, but it's now documented / videoed so well that if you're at all handy with a basic screwdriver, you should be able to do it without issue.
I just make do with the 1TB USBC. I think it cost me all of $9.
