even though we have options like external storage and cloud storage, some people still like to have most things accessible on the local disk, so they don't have to worry about bringing an extra drive or having stable connection to the internet to access their files, not to mention the added cost of those things. Personally I don't have an issue just getting an external SSD, but it does decrease the portability and ease of use for a laptop. For a desktop, that doesn't really pose any issue at all. That said, for a "Pro" level computer at this price point, 16GB of RAM is underwhelming, but that's what we've come to expect of Apple.

It's 2025, the mentality of everything must store on local drive is just laughable.

Looks decent, but for $150 less you can get the Macbook Air with 24GB RAM. Tough call.

Isn't 16GB RAM quite lacking, especially if one wants to do any sort of LLM stuff on it?

I think the real issue here is programs with just 512GB. I'm looking at close to 150GB in programs alone. Then I'd rather save active projects to the internal and then transfer them to external. 512 is very limiting for this.

There are many things possible, but the question is, should it be acceptable? At this price, maybe? At MSRP, I would never.

The miniLED display is worth way more than $150.
