I'm on the fence between this or the Mac mini $450 deal at MC. Both have the same specs M4, 16GB, 256G. Granted this one is $400 more but I don't have to worry about getting an external keyboard and a mouse. Plus the portability advantage of taking the MacBook anywhere.
Is 8-core GPU vs 10-core GPU a big deal?

there's no way to upgrade RAM since M1, because the RAM is stacked on chip. SSD can be surgically replaced though.

Personally I like the larger screen but given the specs I would take the M4 deal. Reason being it has 16gb of ram to future proof. Memory is cheap and easy to expand.

The M3 model comes with 16GB or RAM, too. Unless, they're buying an older used/refurbished one. Apple bumped the base RAM on all Macbooks to 16GB mid-cycle last year.

Get the macbook air 13" its more versatile and no 2 extra cores not a big difference.
