i only had the hard floor one and it lasted me years until it was broken during a move.
i can imagine the carpet ones eventually cracking due to micro flexing.
also to note the one you linked is made in china. the one i had and bought again now when i found this deal are made in usa.

As far as made in the USA, I will be totally honest - I don't care where the chair mat is made, I just care that it is decently priced and that it lasts.

your experience with the carpet one was an unfair comparison.
as far as US vs PRC made - in this listing the product is made in the us AND is cheaper than the alternative link you offered.
the article about people not being willing to pay More for US made is moot in this immediate context.
the listing was better (for hard wood floors), cheaper, and made in the us.
unfortunately some misunderstanding resulted in the deal being downplayed and missed out by anyone that could have benefitted from it.
