Not true at all. When YUM Brands (a division of PepsiCo) bought Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1986, they shortened the name to KFC because marketing research showed people had a negative view of the brand because the word "fried" was in it and therefore associated it as unhealthier than other fast food.
