I cancelled and they offered me $3.33/month to stay on which is much better than the $14? they were planning to renew me at.

This is why you should use either a low-balance MC/Visa gift card, or a virtual card with a low limit. In case you forget to cancel. You can switch your payment card if you did not sign up with one at first.

Tip: Do not cancel 30 days or more in advance in a multi-month promotion. Wait until you are in the last monthly cycle because you will only stay active for the current monthly cycle. I found that out the hard way.
