Not such a great discount for a discontinued product, but the touchID on the keyboard is really fantastic especially if you combine it with a Mac mini which unlike a laptop doesn't have TouchID built-in.
The version without numeric keypad is much less expensive and I actually prefer it but that's a matter of personal preference.
FWIW biometrics are stored on the computer's secure enclave, which means if you use it on a laptop you don't have to rescan your fingers on the new keyboard.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know there were 2 versions. Would rather get USB-C but $200 is steep.

Because the lightning connector end connects to the keyboard but the other end is still USB-C, it doesn't really make much difference.

Except that lightning is discontinued and therefore user will need to keep a specific cable around vs a C to C cable which are becoming ubiquitous and have many uses.

No backlight. This is a huge issue for nighttime use for me, but Touch ID is really helpful. I'm hoping next gen has lighting and USB-C.

That's why you pay $40 less, it's up to you to decide if that minor inconvenience worth it.

Nearly as expensive as an iPad. Who is buying this junk?
Wait til you see how much some other keyboards cost.

Charge my keyboard once a month at the most, even with heavy use. Still have iPhone 14 and AirPods Pro 1 that use lightning. While it's being discontinued, unless you're updating to all new versions, I'm sure you still have to have a cord around.

Yeah this keyboard can get like 6 weeks between charges Not having a backlight helps extend the battery life

If Apple wasn't so damn lazy and backlit this keyboard, like people have been asking forever, I'd consider it

Learn touch typing? You won't require a backlight afterwards.

This is the modern day "you're holding it wrong" answer

There's nothing that integrates with Mac's better. The Touch ID would be cool. But yeah, an obsolete port that they should have stopped designing into products 10 years ago. Hard pass. Kind of crazy we bought an entire mac mini for $400 and they want half or almost half of that for a keyboard.
I get what you are saying but this is a keyboard! Any decent Bluetooth keyboard will work just as well.
In fact, at this price point I will encourage everyone to look into much better options such as Nuphy or Keychron. Either will provide a typing experience that's miles better than this Apple keyboard.

I purchased this keyboard - it has backlighting - rechargeable. Going strong for 8+ years.
