Do not recommend even at this price. I owned this for a year and hated it. Returned this to Costco. You'll rarely use all of the grill space and because it's larger it will run cooler, burn through a lot more pellets which are expensive, and just frustrate you to no end. Had to disassemble twice to clear auger in winter. It's chinsy metal and just lets heat escape like crazy. Expensive long term. Upgraded to pro 575 and I'm burning like 1/2 of the pellets.

I did a smoke recently. 3 racks ribs . 1 piece of brisket flat. 7 sausages.
I love the extra space. I was NOT going through pellets super fast at all. I love how this is simpler smoker. No PID. No WIFI . I found those things dont work right. So i went to a simpler smoker and will never go back.

To each their own but I haven't had a single one of those frustrations in my 4 years with a no frills PB 500 fb. I do overnight cooks at 200-225 several times a month and it's the easiest cooks ever.. Has a sear zone for grilling- not as good as charcoal / my green egg but so damned easy.. I enjoy the ritual of charcoal / starting the fire and the prep but man the time saved on all that is so awesome.

I had a wsm for years before switching to the traeger, I'll never go back, using the traeger is just way too easy and I don't have the time to babysit anymore.

I do still have my kettle and a Smokey Joe, but for smoking pellet is king unless you're looking to do comps.

I'm currently running with a WSM. The initial process of getting the charcoal lit is obviously more involved than pouring in pellets and pressing a button, but once lit I use a fan connected to WiFi and the temp stays rock solid at whatever I set it to. The days of babysitting are long gone since the advent of the remote controlled fan. And you can't honestly compare the flavor of charcoal and wood to pellets.

Got one for a present 6 years ago. It's ok. I wouldn't pay this price for it knowing what it can do. I replaced it with a Masterbuilt Gravity fed. Love the versatility of it better.

Same, haven't used my pellet grill after getting a gravity smoker.

Can I ask what gravity smoker you've had luck with?

I didn't know there was more than one brand! I have a masterbuilt I got from the slick deal post about the home depot closeout of old models, I think it's the 1040. I purchased a bunch of mods as well. It's huge and uses a lot of fuel but I also got a slick deal on charcoal. If you're looking for a lot of smoke, it's great and beats the pellet grill, you can put real wood in there!

I jumped on this same deal last year from Ace Hardware, plus the free 25lb bag of pellets. My friends and family have other brands of pellet grills. Each of them paid less money for the same approximate size and got more accessories and convenience features, like shelves and storage areas, and more efficient burning options.

This Treager is very bare bones and it uses a lot of pellets...even at very low temps. It's like Traeger put out the first auger-fed system and then quit trying. Others have improved on the auger-feeding plus improved the housings/shells and the user experience at less cost while Traeger seemingly rests on it's name and expects a premium.

Admittedly, I jumped on this deal last year because of the brand name and have wished I didn't ever since my first cook on it. It cooks fine, no better or worse than other pellet grills I've been around, but this will be the only Traeger I'll ever buy.

Smoke is smoke, and if you're not getting enough you can supplement like when I make brisket I'll throw in a smoke tube. I make ribs for family multiple times a year and nobody has noticed a difference after moving away from the wsm with 6hrs total grill time there is plenty of smoke flavor the only difference is when I'm done I scrape the grates and close the lid until the next use.

Those fan controls existed 20yrs ago, nothing new they're just cheaper now.

I loved the Masterbuilt Gravity 1040, but everyone in my family was afraid to use it, too complicated to run. Ended up switching to a Recteq flagship pellet. Now everyone in the family uses it because it's so easy to run. However, the Masterbuilt was slightly better on a few things.

I have a Traeger, wish I had bought a Pit Boss. They're cheaper and have more features. Manual auger advance, better control. This one is slightly larger and has an advanced control panel: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pit-Bo...om=/search

I got this last year and paid $450 with military discount. Upgraded from a Pro 22 which I was able to sell for $200 after 5 years. Love the extra space. Did a full brisket, many pulled pork shoulders, and chicken quarters in the last year. If I need to sear, I just use my Weber Genesis II. Never had an issue, but I always clean the fire pot after every use.

I've owned mine for over 8 years and loved it. Sure, it's big and not well insulated so maybe you burn a few more pellets, but I have done 2 18+ pound briskets simultaneously on this and they turned out great. I have my gripes, but for low and slow, it's been a work horse.

The gripes:
1. It doesn't get hot enough for anything aside from low and slow. If I crank it above 300 it never gets higher.
2. The grate is all one piece, so cleaning it is a pain in the butt.
3. There is no built-in way to remove pellets from the hopper if you're wanting to change pellets between cooks (like going from post oak for one cook, then swapping to cherry for another)
4. I augment all my smokes with a smoke tube. In my experience most (if not all) pellet smokers just burn a little too clean and have a harder time getting that offset smoke flavor, which I know isn't possible, but the smoke tube helps.
5. A few times, the pellets in the hopper have lined up just perfectly and dammed the flow of pellets into the auger. Not sure if this happens in other pellet smokers that often, but it has in mine.

Traegers are great smokers but if you really want to get the best results nothing matches a charcoal smoker. Pellets are easy and quick but I haven't tasted anything from a pellet smoker that comes close to the same meat on a charcoal/wood smoker from somebody who knows what they are doing. Traegers have their place but to pretend like you can get the same results as WSM with pellets makes me think you didn't really know how to use the WSM.

Well if you've never tasted it it just must not be possible, when are you judging your next comp? I mean they must fly you around the country since you're the authority on bbq.
