Say it's refurbished in title
there was a bad firmware update that basically overvolted or something and the headphones wouldn't last more than 20 minutes.

I replaced the battery with this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C62L2FTV and it has been keeping its battery life now.

Yes it's refurb but Secondipity's Sony stuff has always been pristine, at least a dozen times over the last year. eBay's 2yr warranty adds some additional reassurance

Surprised this is so heavily disliked. Xm4 & 5 have been way too high of a failure rate and ur getting a pair that SHOULD be repaired.

I upgraded xm4 to xm5 and like it. Xm4 are big and hurt my ears when I wore it during long flights.

My old refurbished xm4 had battery issue and their 2-year warranty gave me money back so I bought a refurbished xm5 from them. Might get a second pair.

Not necessarily, I got a pair of XM4s from them last year and they had the famous battery issue. Which is on Sony really

I got the XM4s from the same seller a few years and while it worked right out of the box the battery was about 60-65% of what it should have been and it didn't take it long for the buds to die while I still have samsung's bud+ from like 7 years ago which still work fine.

Same. At the point with my sonys that I feel I rent them. Buy them they last a year or so, one breaks, get refund, buy another from same seller.

I purchased a refurbed pair of these to replace my XM4s and they fit my ears much better as they are smaller than the XM4s and they do not sacrifice sound quality with the size change. They looked brand new and have held up well. I've had them for about a year now and purchased at $127 and would pay that again for them.

These are earbuds.

I wish Slickdeals users would be more precise, especially with the titles.
  • Headphones versus earbuds/iems
  • Apple TV (hardware) versus Apple TV+ (streaming service)
  • RAM (memory not storage)
  • etc.

Cool. I always thought of earbuds are "disposable" with consumers not being able to replace the batteries, but now that I've actually looked for tutorials (at least for the Sony XM4 & XM5 buds), there are a quite a few.
