I think they are fine, many animal shelters use these or similar now. There is some risk in anything. TBH not even sure how what you are describing would happen. Where did it get caught? In the fabric?
I got two in '23 and they seem to be in fine condition. Dogs slip off if not level, so I made little legs for my yard's hill.

Yep. Happened. Just giving folks my experience and would avoid them. Doesn't happen with a floor pillow, which is what he used until he passed on.
The joint of the metal legs. His nail went in and got stuck. When trying to get free he lost a nail. Again, my recommendation is to avoid it. But like anything else it's buyers choice.
