This is a pretty decent deal.
I usually buy the Diamondcleans at Costco when they're on sale but I'm in for one here.

Why are these always medium stiff bristles. ADA recommends soft when brushing.

Why are these so expensive? Are they worth it? I've bought them a few times and also some off brand from Amazon, i just don't know these are that much better, and they're much pricier.

Exactly. The C3 is supposedly Medium-soft. G3 is soft: https://www.usa.philips.com/c-m-p...s/gum-care

I dont understand why medium stiff bristles are even manufactured?

I just get them on ebay (genuine brand), always a lot cheaper than retail. I just got a G3 4-pack for $13.

There is a chip inside that tells you when to change them out. I always ignored the indicator to stretch out the life of these since they are so damn expensive. Last Black Friday I bought a "compatible" head made by Brushmo that has performed well enough at a fraction of the cost. They do stick up above the top of the base more than the originals, but they work just as well in my opinion.

You can go by the blue bristles too. When they're white, it's definitely time to change. Even the generic ones have this "

How do you know those are genuine replacement head?
Do you have a picture of the chip(underneath) the replacement head to share?
We can tell you if it is real or counterfeit.

I just ordered it two days ago, so I haven't received it yet, but I'll check for the chip when it arrives. I purchased from a seller that seems to sell miscellaneous scratch-and-dent type items, so it was a one-off item with photos of the actual item with some superficial damage to the packaging. There are some sellers that have a lot of stock, use stock images, and the ship-from location is just "US" without a specific city/state -- I suspect those are probably counterfeit, so I avoid those. This is actually my first time buying Sonicare heads (new toothbrush for my mom). I personally have a Oral-B that I've had for 10 yrs and I've always gotten replacement heads on ebay without issue following the seller/listing-profile described above; however, the Oral-B heads don't have a chip.
