Based on the specs, it will pull 9 amps. These things sip electricity.

Could you terminate to a plug? Yes. Should you? Probably not. Feels like that would not meet code, but I can't confirm that. Just sounds suspect.

That said, I have a Costway 18K BTU mini split in my 1,000 sqft shop with very little insulation. It works well, but it isn't but enough for the shop. I knew that putting it in. I paid $589 about a year ago, but no WiFi on mine. 220 volt

I installed it, and consider myself slightly above novice. I know enough to be dangerous. Plenty of online videos. Only odd tool you need is an HVAC vacuum. Otherwise all the tools you need you probably already have.

Instructions are detailed good. The only issue I had was really around the electrical wiring . The wire colors on the unit did not match the instructions, so it took me a bit to figure it out.
You are charged for the *power* (watts) you use, not the amps..

--

Power = Current x Voltage

110v x 10 amps = 1100 watts.

220v x 5 amps = 1100 watts.
Don't trust the specifications, such as heat range, from these marketers. Trust what the other poster said about the law of thermodynamics and heat pumps. These two units you are considering are highly likely exactly the same and both made by AUX. You will see some marketers claiming a different sear rating as well. I just finished up installing my yitahome a few weeks ago. Here is a video. https://youtu.be/hYYoWePYU1A?si=Nbe9jorsslMQEHOA

The problem is probably the power pull of these. Will work fine if it is the only thing on the circuit but expect to trip breaker often if you have other things on the circuit. That is why appliances like these need their own dedicated circuits.
You should be able to put 2 of them on one 20 amp circuit and still be below the 80% max for continues use applications. With one on a 20 amp circuit you still got 1440W to be used which is enough for most other things.

Anyone has experience with costway vs pioneer vs tosot? I'm researching which of the three brands is better as they're about the same price and either made by gree or aux

which would you recommend?
Bump this as I like to know also in terms of quality built. I do not mind paying a bit more for an unit that would last longer. Is the factory warranty a good indicator? thx

I don't have good knowledge of the brands, but I bought a Costway 18k BTU last year and it still runs great without any issue. I think it depends a lot on the installer. The most common issue I experienced with mini-splits is leaking, not with the unit

This is amazing. I'm debating between this higher-priced one versus the Yitahome in the other thread. The Yitahome can only do 5°F to 118°F. But.. the temperature has not gone lower than that here in Houston. Decision, decision...

If Houston gets below 5° you probably won't have electricity 😉

If you are talking the checkout page. Country is set from your popdown address. Make sure to save the address before saving the rest of the page. You can't just use the bottom save without the stop one.

Gree/Tosot or Midea would be first tier for Chinese manufacturers, with Aux and TCL as second.

My costway unit arrived damaged and dealing with their customer service was seriously trying. I had to threaten a chargeback before I finally received a refund.

I've installed a few of these now. No prior experience, except for wrenching on my cars on my own. The install process is lengthy but not impossible, if you're competent with your hands, this is definitely doable.

I'd say I prefer the Tosot or the Senville models.

Damn I need a 3 zone for bedrooms upstairs, local heating as needed for winter and mostly for peak summer when AC cannot cool 2nd floor.

Can these 110V units be plugged into a wall outlet or must they be hardwired? I'm looking for a heat pump that I can run from my Anker F3800 "portable" battery + solar panels in case of a power outage.
As long as you aren't looking to get it permitted. Code in California IIRC is that mini splits must be on a dedicated hard line circuit. I suspect most States if not all have the same requirement. Some people (my buddy included) find companies that will install 110v units by simply tying in (hardwired) to an interior wall outlet that resides on an outside wall. I have done that procedure to add two outside electrical outlets.

I have a 10 year old Daikan that was professionally installed. It began leaking about 3 years ago and requires a "top off" once every year or two. That price has risen to $3-500 to have done now.

I'm fairly hands on and thinking of just purchasing and installing a new. CAn you comment on concerns of how the install may affect the unit leaking?

I already have 220 pulled for an existing 10 year old Daikan. I'm capable of taking the circuit down to 110 (and arguably could use another free slot in my panel as i'm close to maxing out). The 220 version is $50 more. Any advantages to staying with 220?

Unless it's a condensor failure, which if yours runs and needs "topping off" its likely not a condensor failure, the small leaks are at the connections from freeze/thaw. Re-flare the copper tubing ends and get new fittings. $20 if you're a plumber with tools, $300 to hire someone.

this is R32. beware that R410 was phased out, and You will see even lower prices on those units.... R41O will be available for a while but people are buying up the stock and they will put a premium on the gas.
