Update: I previously recommended this thing, but after another failure (probe didn't hold a charge) I discovered what I consider a design flaw. So I have to do a mea culpa. I no longer recommend it.

The probe doesn't charge if the unit isn't turned on. Just charging the base isn't enough, to charge the probe the base has to be turned on. I wrongly assumed that just charging the base would do both. Nope. The issue is having to turn on the base several hours in advance or even overnight before you can use this thing. That's not convenient. I don't have this problem with my ThermoPro TempSpike, the probe stays charged if connected to the base, period. As long as the base is charged, the probe is too.

That's why I recommend going with a name brand like ThermoPro. The big names are usually a more reliable choice, and you can buy replacement probes if you ever need to.
