So is this one supposed to be somehow at least 50% better in quality or something over the 85" TCL Q7?

Seems like 85" is the in size now, and I need it... but is paying extra $500 worth it?

TCL 85" Q7 QLED (2024) $999.99

- QLED panel, basic Full Array Local Dimming
- 120Hz refresh, Google TV
- 1,000 nits brightness
- Basic HDR10 support (if i watch stuff that has HDR)

Hisense 85" U8 Mini-LED (2024) $1,499.96

- Mini-LED panel with high dimming zone count
- 144Hz refresh, Google TV
- 3000+ nits brightness for top-tier HDR impact
- Supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and high brightness HDR content

Hisense is also competes with Samsung and Sony's $3K+ models for half the price. The $500 gap feels justified with the performance jump, especially for bright rooms, dark scenes, and HDR content like streaming movies on Netflix, Disney+, etc.

Is there something I'm missing that makes the TCL better value besides the price alone?

Or is this $300 delivery cost for real, they dont have free shipping?

Get it from Best Buy, they'll price match this price online. So free shipping! And I got their credit card to get an additional 10% off.

Those that buy this TV...be prepared for some occasional bugginess
Wi fi may drop occasionally , E-Arc and CEC issues that can come and go

Its a great Tv for the price
Just dont have high end Sony or Samsung expectations

We have this TV and it's glorious. No complaints so far except for viewing angles are a little off. Just as good as my LG C4 in the bedroom with blacks and brightness from my eyes perspective. Great price, we purchased the same TV a year ago for $1700.

The color and blacks look great on these, but the processing is weak, you will likely see issues in fact paced scenes and gameplay where there are artifacts/ distortion, if you don't care about that, then it's a good price, but if you notice it, it becomes almost impossible to ignore

Easily mitigated with an apple TV 4k.

This is mini LED, the Q7 is not (the QM7 is).

Mini LED is a major upgrade, so that's what you're paying for - increased brightness, more local dimming zones, overall superior picture quality.

I would even go for this lower end mini LED Hisense U6 over the Q7 if the U8 wasn't in budget.

Not really...perhaps the Wi Fi issues are
This happens to my U8H on a semi regular basis and it will show a banner that says "Wi-fi connected" 5-7 minutes into what ever you are watching
This is after the banner when you turn it on that says " wi fi disconnected"

The U8N on the other has CEC control and E-arc issues
Occasionally it will just stop performing...Turn it off and then off again and then it works just fine

Both of them have the latest updates
Both of these are bedrooms

I also own both a Samsung QN90C and QN90A and neither had had any of these issues that the Hisense U8's have had

My point...these Hisense U8's are great TV's for the money, especially if you watch a lot of 4K content and dont need them to do much picture processing
However...dont have Samsung or Sony expectations in their operation

Lol. It is not just as good as the C4 with blacks. I don't know how you don't see the difference. It doesn't get any more black than pixels turning off. The C4 also has better color. This is brighter, though.

eARC issues are not mitigated with an external device.

I'm pretty happy with the image quality of my old U8G, but the OS is sometimes very tempermental. I've had issues where after some apps are loaded and then you switch to another app, the video streams error out. If I force quit the first app, then the 2nd app starts loading streams fine. And it seems to happen with particular apps so it makes me think its a poorly designed app rather than the OS itself. Its usually easier to just long press the power button and restart, but it makes it seem like the WiFi is dropping out but its really just some problematic android apps. I don't know if its really the OS or if its the app developers themselves but Youtube likes to just crash out sometimes putting you back on the home screen. I would prefer native apps just because I like having one remote and its 2025. So its tempting to upgrade to the Mini-LED and going from 65 to 85 but I'm hesitant for the software. Restarting the TV once every few days isn't that bad of a deal but its still a hassle.

How is this with gaming? I have an Ethernet connection so I'm not worried about WiFi
