My wife's IdeaPad died so I picked up one of these yesterday. 12th gen i5, 512 SSD, and IPS touch screen panel at this price seemed solid. At least it was better than anything else I came across on SlickDeals the last week or two. Only 8 GB of RAM but that's adequate for browsing, MS Office, etc. 220 nits so not super bright but I was able to view the screen just fine in a bright room. The shell on these things are all plastic which I don't love, but that's what are used these days unless you go up in price. I grabbed one in good condition and it pretty much looks brand new. Updated bios, windows, etc. and it's working well.

Were you able to get it out of Windows S Mode painlessly?

There's one available in the Atlantic Center, Brooklyn store for $210 (fair condition). Pickup only. Processor seems to be an i5-1235u which is plenty for everyday use.
FAQ on BB page says memory can be upgraded.

The device was already switched out of Windows S mode which I was surprised by. My best guess is that Best Buy imaged the laptop when it was returned, as S mode was gone and the laptop was missing a lot of basic drivers (audio, chipset, display adapter, etc.).

I wouldn't be too worried about S mode, there is always a way to get it removed. You also have 15 days to return if for whatever reason you can't get it out of S mode.

Then sent it to Dell once again to fix again, received it with the same issue. These guys are clueless. Please dont make the same mistake i did

8GB is fine for what 80% of the population uses a laptop for. Another 8GB can be added for cheap for those who need more. These are open box items returned to Best Buy within 15 days, not laptops that have been used for years. Anything else you'd like to be wrong about?

I guess if all you do is piddle-paddle around on mobile phone playing Angry Birds, you don't actually do anything worthwhile -- so therefore, you don't even need 8gb of ram!

That's like saying never buy a MacBook because of the butterfly keyboard generation.

A hint: there are several types of touchscreens, and while the one YOURS has may be an issue, others will not.

I have multiple 8th gen touchscreen Dells with zero issues with the touchscreens.
