The thing that bugs me the most is it's not even purpose built "well".

It doesn't directly connect to the PS5 console while at home to guarantee a stutter free high resolution feed video (ex: Wii U gamepad did it 10 years ago, no wifi required) and instead relies on your home wifi network which can be bad/flaky regardless of your ISP or even router. With PLENTY of online complaints from users wasting countless hours unable to get a smooth streaming experience.
It doesn't have WiFi 6 which is wild for a dedicated streaming device.
It's streaming quality is no better than if you used your phone or laptop. In fact, Portal quality is often worse if you use Chiaki on mobile/PC. (I don't understand how some internet randos know networking and decoding better than Sony)
At $130 though? I think it's definitely worth a shot to see how quality is on your home network. Albeit I'm shocked how many owners gloss over these issues.

Yeah but that would tie up the phone / laptop / tablet and use their battery. And you have to putz around with controller pairing. And bringing two things with you.

I get what you're saying but this is more purpose built vs your solution.

I love mine. Bad info from people who know nothing about it. You are getting a full PS5 controller with feedback, rumble, ext. Stream your console anywhere with good wifi (best at home of course), no ps+ needed. Stream games with ps+ from cloud (no ps5 needed). No need for phone attachments and eating phone batteries. For $200, it has resulted in more gameplay for me, and overall statistics provided by Sony support this as well.

Can you actually use it as an extra ps5 controller?

Sometimes its not even worse condition. You could put excellent condition next to fair of the same item and not be able to tell why they labeled it that way. Also availability vs distance.
Can confirm. Their grading is not consistent. Same with Amazon.

I feel like you could just get a ~$20 8bitdo and a cheap android device.

What happens if you get stick drift? Can you replace the controller parts easily?

Some claimed that you can install emulators on it
Might be possible but it is really underpowered for anything besides streaming.

I got a ps5 a couple years ago as my first sony console. This portal is probably my most used gaming device over the past year! I do a fair amount of handheld gaming because I've got young kids and the TV isn't always free. I also have a steam deck and a switch, but it just depends what game I'm into at the time and which one I pack in my bag on weekend trips in case I have energy to play after kids go to sleep.

It's quite a bit lighter than the steam deck, and while it doesn't have game pass and emulation paradise that the steam deck has, I have a lot of sony games classics and games to catch up on. I don't have ps+, and my home console is plugged in via Ethernet. The portal does need to have better than hotel wifi though to play smoothly.

Great deals thanks ! Was able to get an excellent condition shipped for $130. Didn't even have to go to the store that had it like 40 minutes away

Good for you. I had one and had to return it because despite having a good internet speed I still couldn't get it to stream anything without terrible input lag that made it unplayable. It seems to be 50/50 on whether or not it works well for people.

I love this thing. I have a backbone, but this is way more convenient to use. The screen is bigger, haptics and it feels natural to use. That and I have a household of 6-7 people and my TV that has the PS5 can be taken a lot.

This has helped me get through my RPG backlog and it's amazing for just that

The consensus is "maybe.. it depends" Smilie
no one here will agree on this thing clearly.
