It doesn't directly connect to the PS5 console while at home to guarantee a stutter free high resolution feed video (ex: Wii U gamepad did it 10 years ago, no wifi required) and instead relies on your home wifi network which can be bad/flaky regardless of your ISP or even router. With PLENTY of online complaints from users wasting countless hours unable to get a smooth streaming experience.
It doesn't have WiFi 6 which is wild for a dedicated streaming device.
It's streaming quality is no better than if you used your phone or laptop. In fact, Portal quality is often worse if you use Chiaki on mobile/PC. (I don't understand how some internet randos know networking and decoding better than Sony)
At $130 though? I think it's definitely worth a shot to see how quality is on your home network. Albeit I'm shocked how many owners gloss over these issues.
I get what you're saying but this is more purpose built vs your solution.

The work around is you buy a Blutooth receiver and you can use any headphones you want.
Just buy a C to C cable it's worth it if you play PS5 games not in front of the tv when you want.
Bro sounds like a personal problem, people have said using a strong WiFi or hotspot makes this thing worth having.
It no longer requires a PS5 to connect to. You can now cloud game with a catalog PlayStation offers, the catch is you have to subscribe to their premium PS+ service.
But in theory you are right that a better condition unit would be worth 300 pennies more.

Sorry, not haptics, I meant adaptive triggers
I think anything other than streaming locally on your own wifi - you are asking a lot. Even that seems to be a challenge for some home networks. Some claim to have success however fully remote? Me - this is not a 'take on a trip' device. Rather - I plan to use it around the house so I am not stuck down in my basement when I want to play game. Good device for that if you can make it work. It works for me? I wish it was more consistent for others. Imo - at this price - give it a shot.
Works great on my home wifi. I have the tier of ps+ to stream games and tried that out and it worked really good.
Real test is trying to connect a few hops away in another state to see how bad the lag is, or to see how it does on hotel wifi etc.
Will probably keep it. PS5 is set up in bedroom so it's nice to go play outside or on other side of the house.
EDIT: Anyone know if this has any tech to sync FPS to the signal or some AI interpolation etc to help with the lag not feeling as bad? Or is it basically just a skype call to my PS5
The gaming experience is good, much lighter than holding my steam deck and the plug and play nature along with the functions of the dualsense controller is nice. It would be nice to have Bluetooth but I don't mind using wired earbuds (crazy right?). As another poster pointed out, the only real drawback I've experienced is if you need to use the touchpad for anything. All in all though, I like it. It's not perfect, but doesn't deserve the hate some folks have for it.
Just finished playing Cat Quest 3 (great game!!) on the Portal. Currently playing Final Fantasy 9. These are the types of games I'd recommend for the Portal. I grind in GTA 5 a little, but doing the more involved coop heists is very difficult. Tough, twitchy things will be harder on the Portal. Probably not a surprise.
