The thing that bugs me the most is it's not even purpose built "well".

It doesn't directly connect to the PS5 console while at home to guarantee a stutter free high resolution feed video (ex: Wii U gamepad did it 10 years ago, no wifi required) and instead relies on your home wifi network which can be bad/flaky regardless of your ISP or even router. With PLENTY of online complaints from users wasting countless hours unable to get a smooth streaming experience.
It doesn't have WiFi 6 which is wild for a dedicated streaming device.
It's streaming quality is no better than if you used your phone or laptop. In fact, Portal quality is often worse if you use Chiaki on mobile/PC. (I don't understand how some internet randos know networking and decoding better than Sony)
At $130 though? I think it's definitely worth a shot to see how quality is on your home network. Albeit I'm shocked how many owners gloss over these issues.
Yeah but that would tie up the phone / laptop / tablet and use their battery. And you have to putz around with controller pairing. And bringing two things with you.

I get what you're saying but this is more purpose built vs your solution.
I love mine. Bad info from people who know nothing about it. You are getting a full PS5 controller with feedback, rumble, ext. Stream your console anywhere with good wifi (best at home of course), no ps+ needed. Stream games with ps+ from cloud (no ps5 needed). No need for phone attachments and eating phone batteries. For $200, it has resulted in more gameplay for me, and overall statistics provided by Sony support this as well.

Biggest downfall, no Bluetooth for my Sony XM-4 headphones 🤪

The work around is you buy a Blutooth receiver and you can use any headphones you want.

I picked one up in "excellent" condition, and when I got home no USB cable, but the device looks good. CS only offered a return.

Just buy a C to C cable it's worth it if you play PS5 games not in front of the tv when you want.

This is the worst handheld gaming device I have ever bought. The idea of being able to play your game "anywhere in the world" is a delusion. If your internet sucks or have no internet at all, you're SOL. Useless POS. I regret buying it.

Bro sounds like a personal problem, people have said using a strong WiFi or hotspot makes this thing worth having.

New to game here. I don't own Xbox and PS5. Does this portal require separate Play station machine? Can I bring this portal outside of the country? Do I need to pay some Sony subscription fees to play the games? Will repped!

It no longer requires a PS5 to connect to. You can now cloud game with a catalog PlayStation offers, the catch is you have to subscribe to their premium PS+ service.

Seems like a fair price, grabbed one to play with. I usually stream to my steam deck but the bigger screen, higher resolution, and haptics seem like a perk
The Steam Deck includes haptics. Perhaps you haven't turned them on? Either way the better screen and lighter overall weight probably makes this a better streaming device.

I tried playing at work, the gym, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Xfinity & Tmobile stores and the game is still choppy. You can buy it to prove me wrong, but I definitely do not recommend it. why do you think they keep slashing the price?

Why would you spend $3 less for worse condition?
What open box is available to you is up to chance. If your store has multiple open box models I personally want to put my eyes on every one, included contents, box condition (if later resale when you upgrade is something you plan on), etc. The condition SKU BB assigned is completely subjective, varies from person to person and store to store.
But in theory you are right that a better condition unit would be worth 300 pennies more.

Sorry, not haptics, I meant adaptive triggers

Trust me, don't buy this used. You will need to send it in to Sony at least once because of non-responsive sticks.

I think anything other than streaming locally on your own wifi - you are asking a lot. Even that seems to be a challenge for some home networks. Some claim to have success however fully remote? Me - this is not a 'take on a trip' device. Rather - I plan to use it around the house so I am not stuck down in my basement when I want to play game. Good device for that if you can make it work. It works for me? I wish it was more consistent for others. Imo - at this price - give it a shot.

Got an excellent. Other than not being sealed I couldn't tell it was used.

Works great on my home wifi. I have the tier of ps+ to stream games and tried that out and it worked really good.

Real test is trying to connect a few hops away in another state to see how bad the lag is, or to see how it does on hotel wifi etc.

Will probably keep it. PS5 is set up in bedroom so it's nice to go play outside or on other side of the house.

EDIT: Anyone know if this has any tech to sync FPS to the signal or some AI interpolation etc to help with the lag not feeling as bad? Or is it basically just a skype call to my PS5

Mine came today after ordering yesterday. It came in a generic box with a generic manual that just says "Remote Player", leading me to believe it was a display model or something like that. With that said, it looks completely unused and booted up right away. Will have to test it out some before forming an opinion but I do like how light it is and how big and clear the screen is so far.

I got one of these at launch and have been pretty happy with it. I've had it lag a few times but most of the time it's smooth sailing. One tip I saw somewhere was to put most of your devices on 2.4g and save the 5g for the Portal. I don't have anything special in terms of my Wi-Fi setup, and my PS5 isn't hardwired. I've never tried using it anywhere outside my house, but I wouldn't go into it with high expectations. I mostly got it as something I could sit on the couch and play while my GF watches TV, or play in bed.

The gaming experience is good, much lighter than holding my steam deck and the plug and play nature along with the functions of the dualsense controller is nice. It would be nice to have Bluetooth but I don't mind using wired earbuds (crazy right?). As another poster pointed out, the only real drawback I've experienced is if you need to use the touchpad for anything. All in all though, I like it. It's not perfect, but doesn't deserve the hate some folks have for it.

I have one of these, and my thoughts:Most games I play on PS5.. I would much rather play on a big-screen OLED TV with a nice sound system and a controller, not sitting on the couch with a 7" handheld screen. With that said, I do find it useful for stuff and can recommend it if you have the extra money. You need a good network. Hard-wire your PS5, put your portal on 5GHz if you can. If your 'playing area' (portal) is going to be too far away from your portal, the experience will suck. My PS5 + Router + Portal are generally going to be in the same room about 10-15 feet apart from eachother. I use mine at my desk for little 'grinding' tasks while I'm working at the computer, and love it. It lets me catch fish in Stellar blade (which I hate) without having to sit in front of the TV for 2 hours.. I sit at my desk, do whatever I'm doing and then go back to the portal every minute or so to start fishing again between stuff I'm doing. It's good for small games, stuff where graphics don't matter as much. I don't want to play Uncharted 8 or Horizon 3 on this thing, I'd rather play those on the big screen.Lag/Input issues for me are zero. It works great, looks great, no problem. Except for HDR - it doesn't support HDR and if your PS5 outputs HDR it will look ugly on the portal, so you sometimes have to turn it off (or make sure the PS5 isn't trying to connect to your TV and get a HDR connection, because it will ruin the look on the portal)Sound is good, battery is good, the controllers are good.. except that stupid touch pad. Any games that require touch pad will be a horrible experience on the portal. Stellar Blade? Absolutely hated using the touchpad on the portal because it would never work.Headphones? Doesn't work with bluetooth. It will take the Pulse Elite headphones, otherwise you're stuck with wired.Screen is nice, everything else is fine. If you have the PS+ tier with the game streaming? also awesome -- no PS5 required, just pick it up and go.If you are planning to take this to work, camping, etc.. or anywhere else, it will all rely on your internet connection. It will not play games locally, there is no storage, everything needs to be streamed via wifi signal. It's not a "play in the car" while your mom drives you to school or a play at work thing unless you have a good internet connection. I didn't care to play it outside of the house, so it wasn't an issue for me. I just want to play it in bed, on the couch, or at my desk when I'm doing other stuff to get past parts in games so I can enjoy the 'meat and potatoes' on the big screen instead of grinding for coins/costumes/whatever else
Solid rundown on the system. I'd like to add I get VERY SLIGHT lag, but enough to not be at my best on shooters and racing games.
Just finished playing Cat Quest 3 (great game!!) on the Portal. Currently playing Final Fantasy 9. These are the types of games I'd recommend for the Portal. I grind in GTA 5 a little, but doing the more involved coop heists is very difficult. Tough, twitchy things will be harder on the Portal. Probably not a surprise.

The PSP was great. The Vita on the other hand had no games at all.
The Vita was fantastic. Unbelievable that the seriously inferior 3DS was a huge success and was like 5 times less powerful.
