No direct experience with this unit but if you're looking for accuracy when it matters I'd stick to my Bosches. If you just need eh good enough might be worth a try.

The reviews on this thing are not promising with a few flat out saying that it was off by an inch at just under three feet. Part of me wants to do a shoot-out with my Bosch just to see if those folks got one-off defective items or if this is a case where you get what you pay for.

The reviews on this thing are not promising with a few flat out saying that it was off by an inch at just under three feet. Part of me wants to do a shoot-out with my Bosch just to see if those folks got one-off defective items or if this is a case where you get what you pay for.

This looks like a Bosch clone of some kind. Expect harbor freight quality at this price, but probably fine for a homeowner that just needs basic dimensions.

I was just using a similar device (from amz) outside trying to estimate distances between trees planning for zip line. I don't know if it's because of sunlight or trees poorly reflecting the laser but I could not measure beyond 50' or so. Even directly at the wall of a building. Is that typical? Will try it later after the day star has retreated to check for any change

The 200ft or 300ft range doesn't make any difference because you cannot see the laser dot at all during the day outside. So you don't know where the laser points at and what you are measuring. A long Tape Reel works better.

Never mess up with measurements if you are planning a DIY project. I'd rely on something that has gone through proper QA
