I wonder how close to new an Acer sold refurb is compared to what you would find open box at bestbuy.

Why? Is it a particularly poor quality view for an IPS, or do you mean not bright enough? Most lower-end laptops have 250 nits. I think for this price, FHD, anti-glare, IPS, touch screen is pretty good specs, as long as you are indoors with no backlighting on the screen.

As already stated, a non-backlit keyboard is a problem, based on my needs. I'd rather have a non-touch screen with a backlit keyboard. But every laptop deal has some compromise(s).

Thumbs up and reps OP.
Good CPU, plenty of RAM, and storage without upgrading.

You'll notice that the CPU is particularly bad. $300 laptops six years ago had stronger CPUs.

... and the integrated graphics, IF you care about gaming.
"It integrates four older Zen 2 cores (similar to the Ryzen 4000 series like the Ryzen 3 4300U)." - https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD...934.0.html

Some reviews I am seeing mention a really flimsy charging port connection. Saw a different Acer today and can confirm seems like it can wiggle bad but not sure if same on these.

I got this laptop refurbished a month ago and I'm loving it for work. Super fast, love the touch screen, love the price and storage. Battery life is eh, and the fan is a little loud, but killer deal at this price.

Nothing's wrong with AMD, as a brand, but the 7X20U series is really weak processors. The 7X30U series is much stronger. In 2019, you could pretty regularly find a 3500U processor on $300 laptops, which about equal performance to the 7520U you find today: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mob...436.0.html

I'd just personally recommend getting one of the 7530U laptops in this price range. This one is $319 right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/23577612...40d5fe0INT

Then a Slickdeals search shows a bunch of similar deals have come through too: https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?searchin=first&forumchoice%5B%5D=9&forumchoice%5B%5D=41&forumchoice%5B%5D=44&forumchoice%5B%5D=4&forumchoice%5B%5D=39&forumchoice%5B%5D=13&forumchoice%5B%5D=54&forumchoice%5B%5D=10&forumchoice%5B%5D=25&forumchoice%5B%5D=38&forumchoice%5B%5D=5 3&forumchoice%5B%5D=30&forumchoice%5B%5D=71&q=7530u&r=1

But 7520u will run cooler, sip power vs 7530u due to newer Mendocino GPU inside.

If anyone wants to try these, go to Costco, this is basically Costco's return item selling at $469 (or $489 sorry fuzzy memory)
