I usually don't criticize any insight... But coming on a headphone deal to say you prefer speakers is bizarre

As a fellow 6xx owner I was curious also. Imo it appears to be a side grade.

I asked chatGPT as well for its thoughts if you could get both for the same cost new vs. refurb. It said both were good, might be more detail with hifiman with certain genres, but it'd come down to your tastes and your preferred sound profiles. However, it did also point out that the reliability of the hifiman's will most likely be less than the Sennheiser not to mention the repairability/modding of the Sennheiser is far more supported.

Using these for 3 years now. Worth every cent. Had to replace the headband as it is rather fragile.
Wish more headphones had replaceable headbands/earpads. I'd like to invest in a nice pair but would hate for them to fall apart on me. the few I saw online required some kind of drilling or hole expansion to replace on these.

I'd avoid lowest end planar like these. Too many lemons. Horrible QC.

Is this good for just watching movies and TV shows like on a plane?

probably easier to sleep on/with than headphones...maybe takes the cover off and rests on the speaker

I own a pair of HE-X4 and really like it (driven by a 32b/384k tube amp). Should I upgrade ?

Can these be driven by a receiver? Is the headphone amp crucial?

How do these compare against the new Audio Technica ATH-R50X?

They're bulky and don't come with a travel case because they're built for home use. And they're open back, meaning whoever sits next to you is going to be listening to whatever you are, whether they want to or not. Finally, while they will work fine off phone or tablet jacks, they really need more powerful headphone amps to sound their best.

So, they'll kinda work in a pinch, but if you're spending over $150, why cludge it? Buy the right tool for the right job. Get a pair of closed back headphones or earbuds for travel, and leave the open back "audiophile" grade cans at home.

Nah, this is for sitting in a plush leather armchair with a smoking jacket and listening to music through a dedicated music only amp while indulging in the experience of feeling the artist's intent through the music production and not just the music.

It's also sound leaky so the person next to you will get an earful and the plane noises will drown in .

Suggest something noise cancelling like the Sony XM 3 or 4

The build quality fell apart after two years, really saddening for the price
