Cal Newport is one of my favorite authors. This book is really great. I highly suggest it.

I just wish I could get my college bound daughter to read it.

Here are some of the best college majors that typically lead to the highest salaries, based on data from sources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and PayScale:

Top Majors by Median Salary

Major Mid-Career Median Salary (approx.)

Petroleum Engineering $130,000 – $180,000
Computer Science $110,000 – $160,000
Electrical Engineering $100,000 – $150,000
Computer Engineering $105,000 – $150,000
Aerospace Engineering $100,000 – $140,000
Mechanical Engineering $95,000 – $135,000
Actuarial Science $95,000 – $135,000
Finance $90,000 – $140,000
Economics $90,000 – $130,000
Applied Mathematics / Statistics $95,000 – $130,000
Nursing (especially Nurse Anesthetist) $100,000 – $190,000
Pharmacy $120,000 – $160,000

Key Factors That Affect Salary

Industry: Tech, finance, healthcare, and energy pay the most.

That's too serious of a method to get A's. Just go to an easy A college. https://archive.nytimes.com/econo...inflation/

Just pick AI IT or union plumbing.
Former starts $40+/hr just feeding AI the right answers, the latter has free apprenticeship at $25~/ hr then $40+/hr union jobs.
Both don't need degrees - just a brain.

If you look at all the majors starting from the top and until Applied Math, there is only one common denominator subject, that you have to be really good at. It's Mathematics. Be good at math, and your future opens up.

It is ironic that one should be really good at Math, but not major in Math, in order to get top salaries. And as far as I know, that has been true at least in the last 15 years.
