If you ever plan on using LineageOS, Graphine, or similar: Remember that you can't bootloader unlock a Verizon(Visible) phone for it, ever. They mandate no bootloader unlocking. That includes Pixels. There are a tiny number of exceptions but in general Verizon and it's MVNO's never ever allow Android bootloader unlocking. T-Mobile and ATT don't do such nonsense (yet).

Need 60 days of service before the phone can get unlocked. So probably looking at another $45+tax added to the cost, getting the total to ~$300+ after tax. From that perspective, not looking like a great deal, especially with locked bootloader (important for me, as I extend the life/relevance of the device via custom roms, YMMV). There are already deals like $399 with activation for an unlocked phone on bestbuy and $399 for this phone at mint (can be unlocked upon request to mint if there is an active service for more than 2 months and that phone is not bootloader locked) etc

Visible doesn't charge tax on their cellular plans. ETA: I'm not saying that it makes it a great deal...but would decrease uncertainty about the costs associated with getting the deal.

Received this update about unlocking.

Currently, your case is actively being processed by our dedicated Unlocking Department. We want to be transparent about the current situation, and we wish to inform you that our Unlocking Department is presently experiencing an unusually high volume of requests. This surge is primarily due to a recent system issue, which has unfortunately caused a backlog in our processing times.

As a result, the resolution of unlocking requests, including yours, is currently taking longer than we would typically expect. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or delay this may cause

My 60 days haven't passed yet, but I really hope this doesn't become another Straight Talk unlock drama.

Just tried my pixel 9a and my second month will end in 27th. The phone accepts a tracfone sim and a foreign sim on att/tmobile. So it looks unlocked. Hope more DPs to confirm visible solved the issues.

I wonder how visible people invented these stories: May has only 30 days; you need to make normal calls instead of putting in a drawer.

Just got the email that my phone was unlock after talking to CS a few days ago. Tried it with my tmobile sim and everything is working.

"This is Anne from your Visible Care Team.

We're reaching out to inform you that your phone is already unlocked. You will just need to connect it to a Wi-Fi network before inserting a SIM card from a different carrier.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked through it. Thank you for choosing Visible as your service provider. Have a great day!"

Edit: Old news but after a google search it seems all verizon phone even unlock will have a locked bootloader

Mine looks unlocked, service expires on 27th as well. Wonder if it was unlocked from last 30 days too. Oh well all good anyway.

Just want to share my experience. My Pixel 9a, purchased on May 23rd and activated on May 28th is apparently unlocked. I just inserted a physical SIM card from US Mobile (Dark Star) and it just worked.
The Visible service was on an eSIM that I turned off. Calls and Internet are working fine (Dark Star is via AT&T network). I had not requested unlocking from Visible. Hope this feature reproduces for others.

I just checked my Pixel 9a from late May after reading this, and it also accepted a T-Mobile SIM without an issue. Called and texted, and the internet works with the new SIM. I had a physical Visible SIM in until today. I also did not request unlocking. The T-Mobile connection persists after repeated reboots for me.

Thanks!

It appears they have fixed the backend issues. Mine is running Fi now. Let's see if it sticks.

Ordered on 5/24 and activated on 5/27. Just tried an eSIM from Firsty and it works... so another positive DP for early unlock?
