Good price, but not sure if I want to be 100% tied into using Alexa only.

It's always better to have options than to have none. Alexa is fine. I just would like to have the option to use another app if I decide to not use Alexa or just to troubleshoot a device.

If youre already in that eco-system, or dont mind just being tied to Alexa, these smart plugs have the best range and ability to reconnect on its own after a power outage. I'd tried a lot of them. Kasa, Wyze, Switchbot, Meross, on and on. I use it for a security camera thats plugged into an outlet thats a pain to reach. All the others work great….until theres a power outage. Then they fail to reconnect on their own when power comes back on. Then I have to go unplug then plug them back in to get it to work again, which defeats the purpose of a smart plug. Not these. It may take an hour or two after an outage to come back online, but it does it every time. The biggest drawback to these is that it doesnt remember its last state. Even if it was "on" when an outage happens, when it comes back online, its in the "off" position. Annoying, but Ill gladly live with it.

I'd rather be tied into Alexa, which is already on my phone, than have to download another app just for my lights.

I don't think Alexa-only devices supports any widgets. So imo, all of the Alexa devices are terrible. Some might think "why would you need those?" because one example is if you wanted to turn a fan off in the middle of the night without waking someone

I was going to specifically ask about widgets, I prefer to conveniently place and use them than to be shouting orders. So you already answered my question.

I just open the Alexa app and tap the on/off that way if needed

Its not as convenient as widget on the home screen, but the Alexa app has touch capability. No talking needed. Just open the Alexa app and its an on/off button

I have Tapo TP115 smart plugs and they have always come back after multiple power outages in the two years I've had them.

I have had many Kasa smart plugs throughout my house for years and have never had one of them disconnect due to a power outage.

I don't dispute that these are good too (will likely try them) but I've had great luck with Kasa.

You whisper: "Alexa, turn off bedroom fan."

Alexa, at full volume: "IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE WHISPERING, WOULD YOU LIKE TO ENABLE QUIET MODE?"

You: "Yes."

Alexa, at full volume: "OKAY. ALSO, DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN ORDER BIRTHDAY GIFT CARDS AUTOMATICALLY THROUGH ALEXA? REMEMBER THE IMPORTANT DAYS OF YOUR LOVED ONES."
