Great deal if you're considering the starter battery pack deal with free tool. It's $20 cheaper

Milwaukee's release patterns for M18 FUEL tools (e.g., high-torque impact wrenches updated in 2023,) suggest updates every 3-5 years. The 2962-20, now 4.5 years old, could see a Gen 3 in 2025-2026 but nothing has been reported.

This kind of explains why this has been a "Free Tool" for certain other deals I've seen lately.

Just a thought.

The newly released M12 Gen 2 3/8 Stubby is only 100ft-lbs under this one so I would imagine the next upgrade is coming soon and it will be a beast.

Thanks OP, glad I waited a day. My son asked for this for his birthday. Turning 19 and building his toolbox. Seems like a solid choice that will last him a long time.

Can you tell from the sku number that it's a Gen 2? If so, what's the indicator.

100%
I went from the smaller Milwaukee 3/4" M12 impact to a M18 1/2" impact and the time it takes to loosen a lug nut is about a second compared to 5-10 seconds with the 3/4" M12 impact

Your honda fit is gonna have it's lugnuts tightened around 80ft-lbs, 120+ft-lbs if the mechanic is a dick. The mid torque has 650ft-lbs of breakaway torque.

Gen 2 is 2962-20 for the 1/2" and 2960-20 for the 3/8". Gen 1 is the 2861-20 for the 1/2" and 2852-20 for the 3/8". Gen 2 looks different from gen 1, quite distinct, gen 2 has a flat area by the anvil with 3 led lights, gray and black, the gen 1 is chamfered front end and just grey with no leds.

FYI, this was $149 at clarks tool. you had to buy a battery set at clarks for $149, then fill out the milwaukee rebate for the impact, and milwaukee shipped the impact to you. took less than a week for milwaukee to verify the purchase and ship out the impact.

You would be fine with a 3/8" for that. My 3/8" fuel is yet undefeated on lug nuts, but its lighter than the 1/2"
