I'm kinda curious about this but don't know much about comp specs. What is the target audience for a machine like this?

I mostly use a PC at home but use Mac exclusively at work. I mostly use a comp for web browsing and would like one that can handle high bitrate 4k video editing. Would this be good for me? I know even 512gb is nothing for 4k video.

What's the expected lifespan for a machine like this? Do you think it'll do 5y? I'm guessing very unlikely for video editing.

Any input appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Will this output 4k 120hz such that I can connect it to my LG C2 OLED t.v. and use GeForceNow to game in 4k 120hz (I have the "ultimate" subscription to GeForceNow).

Mac makes better functional laptops (I have an MBP M1 also), but your Plex issue is if you are transcoding or not. You said "years" you may be trying to serve a codec that a newer M1 can handle that your old one cannot. I run Plex on an N100 (a $30 CPU) and it will happily transcode up to 4k (including AV1 which until the M4 does not) without a sweat. Of course I run that on Linux not Windows but Windows could handle that. I agree on all your other points for 30 years windows has not made a laptop that won't sleep properly

My main PC does run windows tho, because the AMD I have it is faster for what I need for my workflow and vastly less expensive than a studio, so its a compromise. I do think W11 file management is far superior to MacOS clearly its worst feature (IMHO).
My issue and probably why I won't buy a Mac desktop currently is because you cannot upgrade anything in it (CPU, Memory, GPU, Storage) which they could easily do storage because I've seen it and they used to allow it. So as long as they create e-waste, I am not going to buy it on principle. Sure you could add TB storage but that is gauche.

Some people had luck with Best Buy price matching via chat even without a nearby Micro Center or local stock. Obviously that not a guarantee, but it might be worth a shot.

The target audience is the average person. It's not really designed for professional workloads.
It can handle video editing but if you do a ton of it, you might be better off spending more and getting a Mac with the M4 Pro chip.

Yes. It has an HDMI 2.1 port. Make sure your cable will support that.

The only reason why this machine wouldn't run 10+ years, other than some weird hardware issue, would be due to software upgrades but 16gb of RAM + macOS support and it's the latest chip, this will have support for a long time.

BB price matched and I'm 80 miles away from MC. Had to pick it up in store though.

I'm sure it will last longer than 5 years.
I bought my mom a Mac mini in 2012, and it was still working fine after I replaced it 2023 (albeit no OS updates by then).
