Just so no one misses it, this does NOT have Ethernet.
My Brother Multifunction Laser printer has been going strong for 10 years, with barely a hiccup. Toner is cheap (especially 3rd party toners carts) and lasts forever. It's been an extremely reliable workhorse and I can't recommend them enough.
I think it means, if you are buying this, purchase a 3rd party toner, and install it while the printer is still returnable, just to be sure that it works...If it works, do not update your printers firmware...

I learned this the hard way with a pair of old Samsung Laser printers when HP bought the printer business from Samsung. HP ruined both my printers, and I put them in the landfill rather than have them go to somebody who would have to feed the HP monster...

The printers were color laser that cost ~~$275 each new from Fry's.One Toner OEM HP cost a cool $490...

i have a brother MFC 7860DW and it's been working well for a long time.
Recently, though, it won't feed paper through the main feeder, only through the single sheet feeder. There's probably a way to fix it and I hate adding it to landfill if that's the case.
It's been problematic with windows 11 anyway, although it had been working fine with linux and win10.

Buying this one is very tempting. They are very good printers.

I love my brother laser printer I bought refurbed from a slick deal several years ago. As others have said, it's reliable and cheap to run (especially with 3rd party toners). With that said, I would probably get a cheaper printer that doesn't have scanner functionality since phone apps are so convenient for scanning now. Google drive has a scan function that will us AI to name the document pretty effectively.

If this model had multi sheet feed scanning, then it'd probably be worth it. If it's just a flat bed scanner, I don't think it is.

Where do you get your 3rd party toner from? I've had mostly good luck with ldproducts.com but I've had a few issues with their ink on HP printers. Although it could be HP's fault.

The rubber tires that feed paper out of the stackable tray get hard and slick over time and use. Typically cleaning them with lacquer thinner on a soft cloth will fix the issue. Isolating thinner exposure to the area of the rubber rollers is important; it will damage the drum and toner if it contacts them. Replacing the feed tires is an option as well, if parts are available for your model. Some have substituted o-rings or rubber strips for this repair, with varying results.

too bad no ADF for scanner
Yea that's a more premium feature. You won't get that with the cheaper printers. This also only has duplex printing but not scanning, which is a nice feature too

Same for us. Had so many problems with HP, got a Brother and couldn't be happier. They're really the Honda/Toyota of printing.

Cut your losses and buy this it will save you hundreds in the short run and thousands in the long run. That is not an opinion it is financial wellbeing, reality and math. Inkjet is an absolute joke and complete ripoff for text printing. Brother also does not do any silliness about using their cartridges and you can use generics that will save again. Not to mention that they seem to just run forever with no problems
Yeah, good advice. I will regret not jumping on this, but I just can't bring myself drop another $100 to replace an item I bought just 6 months ago.

Dont do the firmware updates no matter how much they come up.
As for the toner look in Amazon and read the reviews.. I used EZ-INk but they are gone but their toner still running strong.

Won't these come with updated firmware because Brother would want that?

I think inkjets are responsible for some of my gray hair. Between clogged printheads and dried out cartridges, and incessant expense to keep them running, I finally had enough and got rid of them for my sanity's sake. My printer running costs have dropped by 90% at least with lasers, and all my printer issues have magically disappeared. I don't need color so all is well with monochrome units, which are reasonably priced by comparison. No point in replacing your recent inkjet purchase, though, until it starts giving you problems. The $60 Brother laser posted the other day makes a great second printer at a comparatively low price, and adds laser print reliability to your AIO's scan function if you don't mind the extra step or 2 in the process. With print jobs though, the laser will pay for itself in a short time, as alluded to in the previous comment.

I have a Brother HL-5240 laser printer that works great, but Brother stopped making print drivers for newer operating systems. I am unable to use it with Windows 11. Just something to keep in mind.

That is sunk cost but you can recover all with what you save. If not you are quickly going to drop more cash than that on ink and just have more sunk cost and negative cash flow. Feelings should not be involved in that, it is just math.

Any and all generics I have tried with my Brother work fine. Some seem to last longer than others but it is another bonus of the brand

Firmware update may lock your system out of 3rd party toner.
B.S. I've used this machine for 15+ years, literally same one and used only 3rd party cartridges. Never had a problem.
