Just so no one misses it, this does NOT have Ethernet.
My Brother Multifunction Laser printer has been going strong for 10 years, with barely a hiccup. Toner is cheap (especially 3rd party toners carts) and lasts forever. It's been an extremely reliable workhorse and I can't recommend them enough.
I think it means, if you are buying this, purchase a 3rd party toner, and install it while the printer is still returnable, just to be sure that it works...If it works, do not update your printers firmware...

I learned this the hard way with a pair of old Samsung Laser printers when HP bought the printer business from Samsung. HP ruined both my printers, and I put them in the landfill rather than have them go to somebody who would have to feed the HP monster...

The printers were color laser that cost ~~$275 each new from Fry's.One Toner OEM HP cost a cool $490...

I have a Brother HL-5240 laser printer that works great, but Brother stopped making print drivers for newer operating systems. I am unable to use it with Windows 11. Just something to keep in mind.
Can't you just print to it as a generic PCL6 or PostScript3 printer since the printer supports both?

Besides the printer, the tonner and the power cable, there is nothing in the box. The printer itself has Factory Refurshibshed tagged in the back. Othewise the printer/the front etc. are clean.

Hopefully, I will get a chance to set it up tonight.

got mine. Some of the apps suck so pick the correct one if you want to setup by phone.

Not too hard to setup but do not use the Brother Iprint and scan,

Use only the Brother Mobile Connect. This is for phone, You can use the computer,

You need to pull out the drum unit to load the toner.

thanks for the tips.. less is more in this case. Same with HP and Canon AIO = mostly bloatware. I managed to grab Brother Mobile Connect app on Google Play for my Galaxy tablet for easy wifi setup and firmware update. It is my first laser and manuals weren't that clear to me for toner replacement. Seems to work with basic Windows 11 default drivers. Now I need to make room for it.. the old CANON inkjet has to go, and all the useless apps it installed My HP gaming laptop had to use win 10 legacy drivers for it to work.

Ordered and received it. but have not unpacked it. I kinda wish I should have bought the compact one HL-L2420DW. Brother does not provide free return label. Any advice on how should I return it?

If you had to pay return shipping, you may be better off just selling it locally on CL, FB Marketplace or OfferUp. You'd probably take a $30+ hit on the shipping fee.

To those of you who have setup your printers have you noticed any problems? I got mine and it make a repeating clicking sound during print and copy. It's weird because my old Brother printer doesn't make that sound, and this new one doesn't click like that when I use the front fold down paper feeder. Makes me think it has something to do with the paper tray, but I can't find anything damaged or out of place with it. I even compared the tray with the nearly identical tray from my old Brother MFC-7860DW and they look the same. I tried swapping the two trays but they are just different enough that I couldn't make it fit.

I was going to do a warranty return but then I noticed I would have to pay for return shipping even if the item is defective out of the box. Not worth the $25 shipping to roll the dice with a return and end up with another unit that maybe has different problems. The nice thing is the printer I have only has 66 prints on it - basically new. Even if I only get a few years out of it it will still be worth the $100.

I need to play with it more when I have time.. the android app was basically the key.. Windows was able to find it easily over wifi "add printer". It was noisier than I expected on simple print job. I wish I'd done this years ago.

Set up my printer. I do not hear any clicking sound during print jobs.. nothing out of normal. There is some type of printer noise reduction option... I did not see any major difference with it being On or Off.
My total printer jobs (Print, copy and other) counter shows 306 pages.

Thanks for the info, definitely a problem with my printer then. I hope it lasts a few years, anyway. I'll probably ask Brother for help, not that I expect much.
