See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.
FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.
I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

I think they are just slow to actually ship or are waiting to fill up a box or something before they actually ship.

I ordered on 6/2 I got fedex shipping info 6/3. There is only 2 tracking updates 6/3 it says shipping info sent, 30 minutes later it says the package has been picked up, no other updates since.

Edit - I guess its moving faster than expected. Its a state away and scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Going to pay it off now.
I think the gap here is that I should have recieved an AT&T activation email (via a walmart scan as I understand it) BEFORE it went to the shipping carrier. If its at the shipping carrier already, I am not sure who scans it for me to get the activation email before it is delievered to me.

I am sorry to say this, but if you have your order shipped via Ontrac, good luck! They are one of the notorious shippers across the country, and I can't express how much I hate them!
I believe you, i just checked the r/ontrac reddit and dont have much hopes on my phone coming now..

I think you can check by trying to register an account with the phone number they gave you on the agreement. I tried before I got the email and it wouldnt let me register an account

I did not write down the number , I thought I could get back to it after i placed the order. Now I cannot get back to the agreement and neither AT&T or walmart can help. I thought AT&T might be able to pull it up based on the email ID and SSN, but nope.

Don't rush to create an account and pay off the phone before you actually receive the phone especially when the order is shipped via Ontrac. You would make the issue more complicated if your order is found lost. Just my 2 cents.

Has anyone installed the S928U1 XAA to get your phone back to manufacturer's setting?
I tried to download the firmware from community/wiki link above, but the connection is terrible. It was disconnected so frequently.

Use https://github.com/SlackingVetera...a/releases if it works.

I'm trying to do the sim swap method of unlocking the phone but not having any sucess.

I got the sim card in an unlocked phone that indicates it's on the at&t network but still shows the Tmobile boot up screen.

I can make calls with the unlocked phone/at&t sim and it's using the at&t number

When I logon to At&t website, it still shows the phone as samsung 24.

When I tried to unlock using imei it says it's not an at&t imei. When I put in the phone number it said 60 days.

I paid the phone off earlier today. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It might take a bit for the phone to show up. Reboot then unlocked phone too. Then check on browser in incognito mode on ATT account and see if the phone shows up. For unlock request use non ATT customer with IMEI of s24. There is also eSIM IMEI, use that if the other doesn't work. Don't provide a phone number for the unlock which they can link to your ATT account.

Edit: You also need to wait at least midnight after paying off as the unlock portal wouldn't sync before.

Will share my story. I ordered verizon thinking a lot of people getting free phones. No activation email for me, but I did get a verizon email saying the email address is updated.
When i switched on the phone, the esim activated.
In hindsight - should have gone for At&T as the phone is unlocked straight away rather than waiting for 60 days.

I was also tempted to try ordering one from Verizon but from all possible products you could possibly get for free due to vendor's error, a cellphone attached or semi-atached to an order that included your full name; address and SSN should probably be the last of your choices. Not to say manufacturers and cellphone networks have capability of blacklisting a phone's IMEI but I doubt Verizon will be doing that

And in 3 days you'll get a notification on your phone telling you to install the esim even though it's already done laugh out loud

I got the physical sim yesterday from Verizon and even that couldn't go smoothly. I had to call them to get it activated. Tech support guy said I wasn't able to activate it myself because their system showed it wasn't due to activate for 2 more days Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) He had to get a supervisor to override the date and I was finally able to get rid of the esim

There is no need to flash unlocked firmware but if you don't want carrier both verizon and ATT will have it and you can flash unlocked firmware for both.
