At $650 in 6-8 months.... Just like all those other useless snapdragon devices that were $12-1500 now selling for less than half.
Disagree. At least this has real office, multitasking and a file system
Seems like it's not the 5g version

Hopefully more stable than the laptop variant. Have some at work and they hang/bsod a ton. Microsoft answer forums are lit with similar behavior. I. Suspecting a bad SSD at this point.

Why is it taking so long for PC software to develop snapdragon compatibility?

Hard pass. This is even more useless than the absurd iPad Pro. Software compatibility will never come around the way it has for Apple's M series due to the smaller hardware ecosystem.

Apparently you've only ever used an iPad because this runs a real operating system that looks and works just like Intel/AMD Windows. It also runs many of the most popular apps just like the Intel versions. So to say "more useless" is not true at all when an iPad looks and works nothing like macOS and is truly hobbled. Just trying to copy a file on an iPad is an exercise in frustration.

Because no one cares a bout a processor primarily known for mobile devices, and since its market share in real computing is slim to none, who wants to recode a program from scratch and spend the time and money.....

The market of Windows software is so broad, with such varying support configurations... much is already supported (https://armrepo.ver.lt/), much will never be supported. From what I hear about the battery life, especially idling, this is already a positive for the Surface Pro line, which is at its best in education environments (and if you want your main computer to also be your reading device.) The old Surface Pros (I originally had a 3) were terribly hobbled by high idling and unreliable sleep states. Come to think of it, the Surface Pro 7 I use now is also horrible about S4, presumably because Microsoft hates S3 and S4. Nonetheless, phone-style idle 'off' doesn't work with x86 processors, so you need the S4 'hibernate' option to work well. With Snapdragon that's no longer the case.

Edit: 'hibernate' is S4, not S3.

I'm hoping you're right. My entire family is all-in on Surface Pro devices for a decade and this would be a fantastic upgrade. But I'm just not keen to pay this $ for it. $700 all in would be tempting!
